What I don't get is 1) why the Hamptons stayed together, and working for Ensign, after the initial reveal, and 2) why Dougie here believed that Ensign possessed even the slightest shred of character. Also: when the guy who's been fucking your wife offers you a pay-off to shut up about it, a nice little gig that keeps you and the lady close to him, tell him to shove it and go to the papers.
Doug Hampton has ethics almost as skewed as Ensign's. Watching him last night made me want to take a shower. He's the "victim," but I haven't heard that he returned Ensign's check uncashed, or that he nobly told Ensign to fuck off with his illegal job offer, or even that he challenged Ensign to a slap-fight over the wife's sexual favors. I'm not saying that Ensign shouldn't be grooming poodles in prison - he obviously should be - but Hampton isn't Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, either.
