Mark Kelley for President! He makes Trump look like the pile of shit he is, and Trump chose Vance, so Vance is a pile of shit too.

It must be hard for Pete to deal with his participation medal, his own inadequacies and his deep jealousy of his military betters, and he would benefit from a lot of therapy. It's harder for us as a country though, to be beholden to his inadequacies writ large as everything from illegal use of our military to the (actually) un-American actions against his military better (and human better) in Captain Senator Kelly.

I beg my fellow Americans to join us in voting this autumn for each and every Dem on the ballot, whether inspiring or not, because only with a comfortable majority will we begin to save ourselves. No purity tests, not this time: perfect is the enemy of good and of progress. We can talk party reform after a cycle or two of safety. If we can reform as we go, great. If not, can we please agree that even uninspiring Dems are better for two or four years than this combination of fascists and emotional cripples?

Ta, Marcie. We have Mark Kelly's (and Gabby Giffords') back because he has *ours.* I have told you all that on A Jet Age Sound we were planning a show for the new year. Saturday morning we awoke to the news of Maduro's kidnapping and the mishegas in Caracas. We of course decided to do an antiwar show instead of one celebrating a new year. We titled it War No More. We'd been asked to do an extra hour (9 to midnight eastern instead of 10, our usual start time) and did it.

When beloved husband Meccalopolis spoke to our listeners, he told everyone he is a Navy vet and that it's in the UCMJ that one *must* not follow illegal orders that violate our Constitution. I'm ever and always proud of him, but I was more than proud of him for speaking up on the air. A Jet Age Sound airs on WIOX, 91.3 FM if you're local in the Catskills. Most of you aren't, but you can hear us at wioxradio.org by clicking the Listen Live button. If you have sound problems, reload the page. This Saturday we'll be on at our regular time, 10 to midnight eastern. From 8 to 10, you can hear our friend Paul Campbell's show, The Quarry. It rocks.

“ordered the acting inspector general to investigate whether the former Army leader could face criminal charges or a retroactive demotion, though nothing seems to have happened with that yet.”

Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if nothing happened here either. Unless the Secretary of the Navy and the people making this decision are willing to dishonor themselves. I know there are MAGA people in the service but it does seem like there’s at least a chance they aren’t willing to do it.

Which is why maybe the MSM shouldn’t already be writing headlines like “Kelly demoted!”

To add some clarity to my previous militarysplaining: a retired service member is still subject to the UCMJ, because he or she still holds rank. And in theory they could be subject to either or both of the “conduct unbecoming an officer” or “conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline” sections of the UCMJ. Which could result in a rank reduction and subsequent retirement pay reduction.

But that has ABSOLUTELY never been applied to political speech; only to cases of actual criminal conduct. And generally only when the retiree has used his or her military rank to further said conduct, such as for fraud. You can literally be in prison for armed robbery and continue collecting your military pension - it is considered an earned benefit from your service, not a reward for continued good behavior.

So…Kegseth has lawyers who will pursue this for him. And can possibly find enough MAGA members to fill a military court who will convict. And here we are.

I'm starting to think Mark Kelly would be a viable Democratic candidate for the presidency in 2028. He has the right resume, is principled, and doesn't take shit from Secretary of Alcohol-Fueled Stupidity or President Scrambled Eggs for Brains. There are more than a "few good men" that I'd vote for, including Gavin Newsome, but Kelly has a gravitas that might appeal to some disaffected MAGAs and "Independents" (the quotation marks indicate people who, for some reason I can't fathom, don't want to come out and admit they'll vote Democratic).

Kelly is my senator, and I like him just fine. That said - he has little charisma, which is unfortunately a serious drawback in a presidential campaign anymore.

Going after a decorated war veteran and astronaut is NOT a good look. We need more top brass to back him up because Rump really wants to think that he already has the power of the military behind him like Maduro and other strong men have. They have to continue to remind him who they serve and why. Methinks that they weren't afraid of war and th\ey certainly are not afraid of him.

Senator Captain Kelly is correct when he observes - as he said in his interview with Rachel last night - that Hagueseth et al are trying to stop not just him from speaking out concerning what is legal and true ... but also trying to intimidate less prominent service members who are less established from coming forward with the truth when they try the war crimes they are planning right now

I hope people are seeing the behavior patterns here. The American infrastructures and institutions from the Pentagon to Congress to banks to employers to good old nuclear family are dotted with them because U.S. culture is infested with bullies and America is streaked with fascism.

This is what the country is up against because those impulses and the punitive lines of action that follow them have never been rooted out.

Lurie nails it. Trump and his ilk are fools, but they are so full of their central, superior and deserving mentality they are unable to see themselves accurately, and neither are their supporters. they live in an alternate storyline. I’ve wondered briefly if they would be found criminally responsible for their worst crimes as they may not actually be in touch with reality, fully aware of what they are doing in a sane way.

Journalists had speculated that Loughner was antisemitic due to his attack on Rep. Giffords, who is Jewish,[45] but the Anti-Defamation League's analysis of the messages by Loughner found that he had a more generalized dislike of religion, and of government, along with women in power. A police report noted that he had previously been caught making graffiti associated with anti-abortion groups.[46]"
