I bet lions ignore them. They barely count as an appetizer.

Gerenuks that pronk and play

Are truly fun to see

They eat a lot of shoots and leaves

And stretch to reach the trees

And mama is the caring kind

She tends her little herd

I tried to rhyme with gerenuks

But dare not use that word

eo's avatar

You could have used "firetrucks".

Menotsure's avatar

Couldn't work out the fucking context.

Wonderful!!

Given their neck of the woods (Somalia), these creatures would make beautiful but calamitous pirates. I mean, can you see them operating an outboard motor?

Warren's avatar

I can see them boarding a tanker, AK at the ready, and hoisting the Jolly Roger of the Hoof and Horn! (Which I believe was a real pirate flag.)

"Same as you. Mm, tasty grass . . . chewchewchewchew . . . "

Martini Glambassador's avatar

Interestingly, gerenuks don’t eat grass at all.

Tommymo's avatar

Not with that altitude.

The Wanderer's avatar

True, they eat leaves.

Blades of grass are leaves, too, and if there were no leaves I doubt they'd be picky.

(is being difficult today)

Grass, grass, or grass, Nobody hops around freely for free.

Those are beautiful animals. I do hope they survive Mankind and the ongoing Anthropocene Extinction Event. Nothing clever, just sadness.

I thought they were Impalas

not the chevy kind

Kay Ducky's avatar

I also read that as "chewy"

I was very confused. Were they overcooked?

Shocktreatment's avatar

Overcooked Impala is notoriously stringy...

Warren's avatar

That’s why Simba eats Impala Tartare

“And remember that if anything bad happens in the US to believe nothing the Trump regime says about it.”

And also absolutely anything they say about anything else. I get the occasional release from some government entity in my news feed, and I treat them the same way as I treat stories from Fox.

I shared Snyder's piece when it was published and I don't know if anyone read it; thank you for boosting it, because it is spot on. Interesting that we're talking about Argentina and the junta: for as long as I have known of him and have had to stomach his omnipresence in the media, DT has made his love of the musical Evita well known, and he has spoken frequently about his admiration for the Perons. When he kicked off his campaign in '15 I tried my best to scream that information from the mountain.

War sucks.

Don't start a war unless you have a true casus belli, you know what casus belli means, you have a clear objective, and you have an exit strategy when that objective has been met.

The war we're waging against Iran right now is a stupid war because we had none of those things.

I guess the weirdest news today is that Donald Trump is trying to claw back the $5.8 million he had to pay E. Jean Carroll for defamation. His lawyers are arguing that the money isn't really hers until the Supreme Court rules on his request to reconsider their refusal to hear his appeal of the lower court's verdict. He just won't give up, will he. Petty, think-skinned, and a bully.

LOL. She's already cashed the check.

Donnie Dbag can try to get it back if his SCOTUS hacks decide to let him try, but they're pretty sick of his bullshit at this stage – and a couple of them aren't keen on making sexual harassment part of the national conversation again.

The problem with the SAVE act isn't having to show picture ID to vote, but having to prove citizenship as well, That requires a birth certificate or a passport. And then there's the issue of people who have changed their names (like many married woman) needing the court papers to prove that. It's not simply having to show a driver's license, which not everyone has. It's a whole Nazi "Papers, please" thing.

SunMoonStars's avatar

This is exactly what I am having to go through to get my mom's ID to vote. I have to provide every piece of ID. I've had to send off for a new SS card and birth certificate since she's 92 and doesn't have that shit lying around.

Get this DMV requires all of this before they will issue a new ID. SS requires the same but I can't do one without the other so it's a stand off since she her driver's license expired a few months ago when my brother died. She has no other 'federal' ID and I can't get a new license or SS without it.

She may be fucked in voting in Nov since this is an obvious loophole.

My own FAUX-watching father told me straight faced last week that you have to have a picture ID to go into a movie theater. Of course, when I called him on it, it was "just a joke". 🫩

Anzu's avatar

You only have to have a picture ID if it's a movie theater that offers drinks and you're not visibly well over 21 years old.

Pere Ubu's avatar

A movie theater that offers drinks...?

Maaaaan, it's been SO LONG since I've been to a movie. Who knew such wonders existed? (Answer: everyone else, because I'm always light years behind the curve)
