"significant measures to secure the border, count me out.”

The Republicans will never find this adequate, even if we carpet bombed most of Central and South America.

Really moderate Republicans died out years ago. Almost all current "moderate" Republicans voted with Trump for four years, and wouldn't impeach him, even after the insurrection he incited. There were exceptions, but very few.

They’ve had many opportunities to deal with this problem. They don’t because complaining about it papers over their lack of actual policies and excites their racist base.

If the bill to raise the debt ceiling and avert a financial crisis doesn’t solve all America’s problems, including securing the border, I’m out! It was the French who played 4 dimensional chess, sending us the Statue of Liberty, and thus diverting all immigration to America. “Dammit! How can we take this thing down!” (My political cartoon with the GOP all tugging on a rope tied around her neck).
