I worship her down to the heels on her stilettos.

IMO she was one of the five greatest Speakers in our nation's history. A definitive political biography has yet to be written but if one comes out, she deserves a multi-volume work as Robert Caro wrote in his study of Lyndon Johnson. It would take something like that to adequately cover her accomplishments

She rescued our country after January 6, and I'll always be grateful for that.

While I'm glad that DADT was repealed, it only existed because newly-inaugurated President Bill Clinton tried to pass a law to let gay people openly serve in the military. He was blocked by Congress (led by Republican Senator Jesse Helms and Democratic Representative Sam Nunn). DADT was the closest compromise that could be worked out, and it cost Clinton a fair bit of political capital. He has a reputation of being a weathervane, but on this issue he stuck his neck out and damn near got it chopped off.

Not only was she a force of nature in Washington, she was tirelessly showing up back home in SF. She accepted all kinds of invites, great and small, especially cared about showing up “for the children”! What a dynamo!

Posts like this when so many choose to be shitty and smarmy about everything are why I subscribe to Wonkette. Thank you.

Nancy Pelosi was probably the most effective speaker in modern times at least post civil rights era. She was a shrewd politician, always knew how many votes she had, and never let herself get in the way of Democratic majorities. I remember something she told Dem candidates 'I dont care if you run against me in your campaign if you can win that way.' She will be missed. I hope she gives her spine to Hakeem Jeffries..

She committed the ultimate sin for a woman of her era - she understood how to, and was unashamed to, accumulate and use political power.

All my admiration, awe - her discipline! - and gratitude go with her.

Maybe apocraphyl, maybe not.

When Nancy was asked what her greatest talent was as a legislator, she replied, 'I know how to count.'

She couldn't have been more correct.

"Credit" for losing the public option must go to Mr. Lieberman.

May the old gawdz and new send seven blessing to Ms. Nancy in her retirement.

One of my favorite things about Nancy Pelosi is that Felon47 was deathly afraid of her.
