Cruz didn't need to stay in Texas, but he could have made himself useful by going to Washington to help coordinate federal relief--he is, after all, a Senator and that is something Senators regularly do when disaster hits their states. Republicans should try imagining that it was a Democrat who did this, so they could then see how this was bad and that Cruz might have been able to do something better than jetting off to Cancun during all of this.
