From what I gather in reading about the MAGAworld people, they seem to be very much in favor of controlling everyone and everything they don't like. Maybe that's the people Maniac Mark is talking about. Maybe? I do not advocate for violent un-lifing of anyone, but maybe just a distant relocation, say to some vast eastern European locale, or maybe something a little more exotic like a north Asian garden spot.
Actually, "we" DID "talk about" whether to challenge the Nazis. We did it for most of the 1930s. Robinson shows exactly how replacing knowledge of history with ideology ends up in a repetition of said history. Does he know about pre-WWII US isolationism? If he does, he doesn't care--either about the truth or the lessons the past ACTUALLY has to teach us now.
Obvs there are a lot of people who don't remember, or never bothered to learn, the result of certain 1930's attempts at totalitarian rule. It wasn't pretty for the rulers or the people.
