Net neutrality is why I have Sonic internet instead of Xfinity. Because I have a gut feeling about the policies of each company. When the Sonic man came to install my service I asked him if NN was still their policy. He said yes but I think he may have been one of the people who aren't sure what it is. He was nice though!

The Fairness Doctrine. Now wouldn't that be nice to bring back?

YES! I was almost convinced we'd never get it back. Biden and his team are pretty committed to reining in some of the worst overreaches of corporate power, but I thought this might slip through the cracks.

"the fairness doctrine.. was a power grab to dictate equal airtime to opposing sides of a debate"

No, not that, what a horrible fate to befall us all (rolleyes emoji).

Srsly, can we go back to being a country that at least *pretended* to care about keeping things equal? You know, that liberty and justice for all thing? I mean, I know it wasn't true, but we at least prided ourselves on having a free press. Seems like even that fake level was better than where we are now, and might make a good Save point for a do-over.

Trump probably thinks net neutrality means the net on a tennis court has to be in the middle, and he’s probably against that because, if he played tennis, he would want the net to be closer to him than to his opponent, or whatever.

It does really show much of the Republican Party is not defined by knowledge, or awareness, or even objective independence from the concept of “do whatever leadership says” and “fuck the liberals”. It’s one of the reasons it’s so hard to make any kind of a breakthrough with deep red areas of the country. They’re not for or against anything beyond the belief they deeply hate you for reasons they can’t fully articulate

As far as I know, no net neutrality rules apply to smartphones. So although this is a good backstop, for many people, their access to the internet is completely controlled by their phone provider, with fast lanes for streaming services and stuff already built in.

Trump is the Pied Pipper of true conservatives, now, if he would just work his magic.

I've long suspected AT&T of doing this. Good for the FCC.

Ted Cruz tweeted at the time that net neutrality was "Obamacare for the internet." Or maybe it was "Nazism for the internet," or "Communism for the internet," or some fucking meaningless hyperventilating hyperbole oh why am I even bringing it up.

I miss John Oliver's humor-filled stories. He's gotten much more newsy over time.
