Every conservative Bill Maher has on the panel on his show always starts off assuring everyone that they support Ted Cruz, as if that elevates them in the eyes of Bill's audience. "I support Ted Cruz" has become the new "Some of my best friends are..." among conservatives.

Umm, not so much.

With economics, the problem is knowing what model is going to be most useful for a given set of circumstances. That being said, you can do a lot with IS-LM and the Taylor Rule as the recent liquidity trap and recovery proved.

And pubic opinion polls can be pretty darn good depending on the methodology, and probability and statistics (good statistics anyway) are a better way to interpret most things than logic and rationality, IMO. A Bayesian approach is much more likely to ferret out biases in your assumptions/priors than anything else.
