In Scotland it is two eight week blocks, with one day a week training as well, for two tears. On the streets after the first eight weeks. Of course they don't have guns here.
I recommend listening to the podcast Running from Cops, an investigation of the police reality show. Basically, you not only have cops performing for the camera; you have an entire generation of cops who were attracted to the job by the show, and think what they saw there is the way it ought to be done. It's absolutely horrifying. https://podcasts.apple.com/...
Here's one thing I can NEVER understand: With all of our whizbang technology, why do they not have a "gun" that shoots netting over a suspect? You wouldn't even have to aim very well. FFS they could have a drone fly in and drop it over someone's head. Can't the country's brainiest science-folk work on a way to detain a potentially dangerous suspect without making them dead? Because the words are POTENTIALLY and SUSPECT. If they want to go with the "Kill em all and let God sort em out" philosophy, they should expect the same for accused officers.
Yes, Reed and Malloy were in at least two episodes of Dragnet. I think one had Reed or Malloy were up on police brutality charges and in another they happened to be the patrolmen who were at the scene of the crime when Friday arrived. About a year ago, I streamed Dragnet during my morning workout. It was so much fun to watch the portrayals of hippies after 50 years.
In the military we are TRAINED ON and REQUIRED TO FOLLOW the rules for escalation of force: SHOUT, SHOW, SHOVE, SHOOT to warn, SHOOT to kill. It ain’t rocket science, it just takes making it a culture. Sure there are fuckheads who go full Rambo from the first contact. But those are the fuckheads who get their entire patrol killed. The vast majority of people who carry a gun for a living and are prepared to use it would prefer not to, because we are the ones who have seen first hand the results. I believe cops fall in that category.
Mirrored sunglasses also, too.

+1 for oblique MASH reference
Oh.Peachy.
I know you mean 'shop to your evil heart's content', but the wording there is a little problematic..

Then he's a PROPERTARIAN. Real libertarians oppose capitalism.
Not possible! They only have the everyman's best interests in mind!
Out here on Long Island, the police academy used to be a six-month program. Not sure if it still is - my stepfather went through it in 1978.
While you may know that "Adam-12" was produced by Jack Webb, Kent McCord and his character started out on "Dragnet".
Whoa...Respect, chemical.
Point taken. I will change that. I'm 72 and some of my long-cherished clichés shouldn't be used.

Wow, that picture just reeks community policing policy.
