I wonder what college sold her father a degree for Julia Koch, and how much it cost? I wonder, because though she "graduated from college" two years ago, it's clear she didn't get an education.
The Nordic Model is social democracy, not democratic socialism. The DSA is shooting itself in the foot by calling themselves socialists, when few of them actually are.
Dem Socs reject capitalism as an inherently bad idea. Soc Dems embrace capitalism, but want to manage / reform / civilize the system to include a strong social safety net -- the Nordic Model.
Communists believe a revolution is needed to usher in socialism. Dem Socs believe socialism can be ushered in through democratic means (Cuba is an example).
This is the excuse MAGA uses to call Dem Socs commies -- socialism (public ownership of the means of production) is the goal of both. They just disagree on how to get there.
Any rejection of the principle of private property will in turn be rejected by Americans. Notice how Occupy Wall Street was a flop -- it flew in the face of private property and private wealth. The movement should have been Witness Wall Street.
That’s just about the most incoherent argument I’ve ever seen on this topic. Is she secretly arguing for social democracy by rebranding Scandinavian economic policy as Capitalism!!? If so, let’s have this kind!
They may be in-work and feeling very secure regarding health-care and education, but they are paying taxes!
And somehow, in spite of taxes, people are not leaving in droves. Hmm.
The tension with newly arrived people vs those that all look the same is real, though. The Danish Social Democrats are standing out for their handling of immigrants (really, it's a branding thing "Left Wing, yes! Comfortable with Racism - well, we don't like the word racism....").
The 'controversy' about capitalism versus socialism is utterly ridiculous. They are not mutually exclusive. Every developed nation (and probably most undeveloped ones) have a combination of the two. We need more socialism in the US and are getting less, but there is some hope that will change. Think of our 'finest' examples of capitalism in this country--trumpy, musky, bezos, etc.--is that really an attractive proposition?
We actually would have the money for stuff like health care if not be our endless wars and the fact that the billionaire class doesn’t pay their fair share.
Investments are not taxed until their sold, so most rich peoples wealth is never taxed at all. Oddly enough, I am required to take out a certain percentage of my rollover IRA every year so the government can tax it. Why aren't rich people required to sell off some of their investments? (That is a rhetorical question 'cause I know the answer.)
Way to prove OUR point lady. So we really want to be like those capitalist countries. Okayyyyyy.... I mean, WE aren't the ones saying we're socialists, but social democrats. WE aren't saying we want to be like Norway because they're socialist, but because we like what they got. I'm sorry, what were we talking about again? Was it semantics or ideology?
Poor Little Rich Daughter Koch just edumacated me good. Now I will be happy to give my all to my most worthy billionaire overlords. ALL HAIL TO THE OLIGARCH CLASS!!!
this is what happens when you don't teach nuance and critical thinking skills - they latch onto a word and then try to weasel out of shooting themselves in the foot with their one dimensional argument with a ''gotcha' that shows how dumb they really are
Yet they still have healthcare. Imagine.
We've been through this tired play before. Some I realize haven't been around as long as some have. Thank you for this!

So...we can have all the same stuff as the Nordic countries...except for the good stuff.
Well played, Ms. Koch. Well played.

There may also be less crime in Scandinavian countries partially because there is no 'guns baby guns' mindset.
Well, now that's just crazy talk.

They're probably a commie.
The right: Universal access to healthcare is socialist! Having the government provide good things is socialist! Democratic socialism is socialist!!!
Also the right: All the good things you love in democratic socialist countries are capitalist!
