I too love the things I have planted (hundreds of trees in Florida and Maine) but here in the Mojave it is wrong to use scarce water on landscaping. For me family and roots are important and I will have neither here soon. I had a decent community of friends here, but we are all old and most of them are now gone or unable to participate . Also my medical problems (DVT and PE and resurgent arthritis) mean I can't hike any distance now so I've lost my hiking group. I'll miss the house but I'd be too lonely here after the kids leave. Also in ABQ I'll be much closer to old friends in Santa Fe and my daughter and her family in Colorado Springs. In ABQ I can catch the train to my son in Boston and I like trains. No more air travel for me.
Or, absent federal child care allowances at least require that every office block that goes up has a floor or some portion thereof dedicated to child care, proportional to the workforce employed there. Like in that socialist hellhole France.
