My big fear is that the AI “revolution” will accelerate the spread of willful ignorance. Every search engine and website is now employing AI while scouring the internet for information, and by its very nature AI is seeking median consensus, NOT factual accuracy. As far as I can tell, it’s the dissenters against reality that are the most vocal on the web, and it doesn’t take an advanced understanding of mathematics to realize those percentages are not good. It’s not like any of these people are reading medical or scientific journals to verify their beliefs.

It’s always important to remember how information is prioritized on the internet. Users are generally the PRODUCT, not the customer. We are there to be farmed for personal information and to target advertising. This is done by attempting to keep users engaged on a particular site, be it Google or YouTube or whatever, and they accomplish that by funneling information that users WANT to consume, whether factual or not, rather than information that will turn them away. When you type a search item into Google, you do NOT get the same responses as somebody somewhere else with a different browsing history, and that has been true for years now.

When disinformation is spread this easily, and the tech industry as a whole seems invested in incentivizing the consumption of lies, it presents a legitimately scary future. You can now easily “prove” anything with a few strokes on the keyboard.

It already is. People are offloading their thinking. Actually using AI for responding to comments in forums. I'm not even kidding. :(

In progress. Combined with regime's under- and anti-education campaigns.

You say, "a solid 55 percent reject all 4." I would change that to a pathetic 55 percent!

"familiarity with the notion that mRNA vaccines can alter your DNA has “dropped by 9 percentage points since April 2025 (from 45% to 36%)” for instance."

Excellent! The changing of people's DNA so they won't remember we are changing their DNA is working!!!!

Zyxomma's avatar

Ta, Robyn. I WISH there had been an MMR vaccine when I was a child! It would have been far better than being so close to death at the ripe old age of six.

So glad you are here with us now!

The main memory I think I have from measles is closing my eyes and making my mom think I was dying. Man, people have gotten stupider in the past few dozen years.

OMG, this. They need to shut the fuck up. It's beyond ridiculous. And Nazi, I'm sorry.

With his 15 minutes of fame secured, the 'Q-Anon Shaman', Jacob Chansley, has only started on his journey to being the most important source of medical advice and treatments available to the redneck and unwashed MAGA masses. Who needs a fancy doctor when the Invisible and Omnipotent Forces of the Universe itself can be summoned and channeled to heal dying people who still have fifteen to thirty dollars in their wallets?

Of course Jacob himself will disdain to handle crass money with his bare hands and will have a support staff to 'accept your faith offering'. Certainly his shamanistic soul journey cannot be polluted by such materialistic window dressing and......what's that you say? He's suing the government for big money? Hollllllllyyyyyyyyyy shit! There I was thinking he was a shaman! But he's just another MAGA asshole. Knock me over with a feather please.

Linoleum von Curmudgeon, Esq.'s avatar

No need for a feather to knock me over when I got an unwashed shaman stank to get the job done.

‘AI’ chatbots seem to me a terribly expensive gloss on this thing…

Like sure let’s spend trillions of dollars and cook off the water and energy we otherwise kinda need for fields of transistors…

… that mostly summarize dumb.

Let me keep this simple:

You have an adaptive immune system. Learns specifically to fuck with particular pathogens it’s met.

Vaccines just introduce them. Kinda like showing them the ‘Wanted’ poster.

Oh also: some people believe chatbots.

Chatbots are kinda like your elderly relative with too much time on their hands that spend a lot of it on Facebook.

So: likely to be reasonably current on who’s dating whom. Less reliable for immunology.

Better still, there are charts out there showing that the amount of money flowing into Trump's pockets through his grift companies matches, almost exactly, the amount that buyers of those companies' stocks have lost.

Please forgive my momentary lapse there.
