"there are a whole lot of people out there who really believe that the United States of America should get to go around doing whatever it wants to other countries without ever expecting any retaliation" They are the same guys who really believe that they, as individuals, should get to go around doing whatever they want to other people without anyone else fighting back, resisting, or even complaining

Awwwww. She lost her Playmate Jet!

The Trump administration will keep the $70m jet Kristi Noem leased during her time as homeland security secretary, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing a department spokesperson and other officials. Select cabinet secretaries and first lady Melania Trump willl have access to the luxury jet, a Boeing 737-Max equipped with a queen-size bed, showers, a kitchen, four flat-screen TVs and a bar.

While leading the Department of Homeland Security, Noem said the agency had leased the plane for deportation flights. The $70m jet was among three luxury planes that Noem faced criticism for obtaining with taxpayer dollars: she also spent $200m on two private Gulfstream jets for herself and deputy DHS secretary Troy Edgar.

Trump announced he was replacing Noem as head of DHS last month, after a series of highly publicized ICE killings in Minnesota.

Oh, sweet fluffy lord, the man is actually going with "we'll be greeted as liberators".

Son, who in the ever-loving FUCK do you think will EVER assist US forces overseas? MULTPLE TIMES now we've just abandoned people who helped us, leaving them to be murdered by everyone who knows they helped us. Oh sure, we promised we'd get them and their families out. But we lied to them. Or, more recently, we brought them here and then ICE snatched them up and sent them back.

NOONE believes the US is going to help them out. And with how we've been indiscriminately bombing shit and how Trump has been blathering about how we're going to just wipe the entire country out, you think anyone is going to trust our soldiers over there?

If anything, Trump and Hegseth are doing more to drive up recruitment for terror organizations than anyone else ever has.

If the US had a decent system of regulation, we'd have far fewer of these animated dildoes "manning" the anchor desks of right wing tv. Wasn't Frothy (Santorum, for the forgetful) trying to outlaw sex toys some years ago?

"And Trump was in the Situation Room with no sleep for 48 hours"

This Higbie guy is a bald-faced liar. I suspect even his" "..I got hit by an Iranian built IED that killed three of my friends right next to me...." is even more bullshit, if not outright stolen valor. I guess he was a SEAL in Iraq - but he left his commitment before the end of term of duty, originally given an "honorable discharge" which was later changed to a "general" discharge, a not so honorable status ( he later appealed and got the "honorable discharge" back, but.... ). He lost his security clearance while he was serving, because he self-published a book using his status as a SEAL to spew out right wing propaganda. With this bullshit about not caring about war crimes, he should once again be4 stripped of his "honorable discharge"

IOW - this guy Higbie is just another reason why Newsmax is a piece of shit organization - they hire all the assholes who were unemployable elsewhere.

Sherry's avatar

Yeah. He may have been there for 48 hours but he was snoring, farting and drooling through most of it.

Vietnam was totes humane! Only two million people killed.

True, most of those killed were civilians who died from a nearly decade of indiscriminate bombing and shelling and dropping napalm and white phosphorus on villages (many of those villages in South Vietnam! -- you know, the people the US was "helping").

Because the people the fine people in charge of the US military were trying to kill were mainly just hanging out in the jungle, where they hid out and ambushed the poor 18-year-old kids from the US who were ordered to march around in those jungles until some Asian people started shooting at them. The Asian people mounted those ambushes when they thought they had the tactical advantage, killed as many of those all-American teenagers as they could, then melted away until the next game of hide and shoot. Fun for everyone!

I mean, what word other than "humane" could one use to describe that whole war? Just a dandy little showering of humane bombs and bullets and chemicals that burned the tender, young bodies of uncountable numbers of children.

Hey, at least they didn't grow up to be commies! The US of A was so humane to viciously murder them for their own good.

I'm sure those people who died and their survivors appreciated being freedomed to death.

Sherry's avatar

Vietnam was a battleground America was not used to. The jungle surprised and defeated them May I posit that Iran is the same way? It’s a completely misunderstood battlefield.

Fifth Dentist's avatar

I think the two million is just Vietnam.

And you could also get into how the bombing in Cambodia helped bring about Pol Pot's ascent to power.

Just a complete shitshow from start to finish.

Thanks Truman and Eisenhower and JFK and Johnson and Nixon and the many senators and US reps who made this all possible by funding it for more than two decades.

Retired major general on Nicolle says destroying civil targets won't happen. Says there have already been pushbacks against Hegseth requests to attack bridges. But he still is concerned.

GH Swell's avatar

Pushbacks in the active military?

Sherry's avatar

Could it be that they finally understand unlawful orders?

helenasgarden's avatar

Not sure what that means. Military leadership. Said NO. Hegseth didn't order, but he did request. Not sure what would have happened if those were orders.

Another retired guy is saying military leadership know where the line is.

GH Swell's avatar

like, the people that would be following the orders.

helenasgarden's avatar

I'm guessing it never got that far because the leaders said no.
