I'd watch 'African Queen' first, if you haven't seen it. One of my favorite movies ever.

There was a thriving Nazi, fascist party in America

Henry Ford funded a Nazi newspaper until the opening of hostilities. I'm not sure if he was aware that German union organizers were among the first residents at Dachau, but I'm sure he would have approved.

This, from the same people who play, without permission, Born in the USA by the Boss, at campaign events and think it's pure patriotism. The same people who read Orwell's Animal Farm, and think it's an instruction manual.

Onions. I am telling you, onions.

That is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

The love story, while it undoubtedly sold tickets, is sort of incidental to the “these Nazis are fucking assholes and everybody had better pick a side” theme.

I always thought the song was a throwaway. If Hollywood legend is to be believed, that’s what the actors thought of the script. Brilliant movie; I shall never tire of it. Newt who?

Newt is the originator of everything that is vile about republicans todays. Sure, Reagan cemented heartlessness into our body politic, but that’s just conservatism. It’s always been about protecting the haves from the have nots.

Newt’s slimy otherizing of political opponents and contempt for facts paved the way for the modern GOP. Neither Trump nor Moscow Mitch could have risen to power without him. Qbert and Marjorie Trolltoes are his intellectual heirs.

A rare "European war on the African continent, only not in North Africa" movie.

I remember once as a kid when our fishing boat ran aground halfway across a bay in our southeast Louisiana marsh and my Dad had to jump overboard, grab the bow line, and drag us back to deeper water. Since my parents had had me sit and watch "African Queen" with them I was waiting for him to get back into the boat covered with leeches. (Do you need a spoiler alert for a 70 year old movie?)

There is a very direct line from Gingrich to the current political atmosphere. He orchestrated a huge turning point; instead of the generally friendly relations members of opposing parties used to have (eating lunch together, etc), he encouraged Republicans to see all Democrats as enemies and treat them as such. The rhetoric changed, the types of people who were R congresspeople changed. What we're seeing now is the logical end game.
