Oh, for fuck's sake . A Republican candidate for Hillsborough County Sheriff said Wednesday that he believes elective abortions are unlawful and he wouldn't reject the use of deadly force to stop them. This is a position we would like to see more fully fleshed out before we reject it out of hand. Possibly a marauding sheriff executing people for abortions wouldn't be so terrible, maybe? What's the basis for his authority to do this, say?
Y'know this reminds me... I recall recently one of the nutters started yammering on about how back in ancient Rome, at one point they outlawed abortion to protect the father's right to his child.
What they didn&#039;t bother to mention is that in ancient Rome, a father could legally (<em>and</em> lawfully) kill his children for any reason he saw fit, until they reached the age of 11 or so.
