After they gerrymander and lose - they’ll just screech - “We cheated and still lost - not fair!”

Today's decision coupled with the reversal of the TX case means states can use race as the basis for gerrymandering districts, as long as its only used to dilute the voting impact of racial minorities. We ended Reconstruction 100 years too soon.

The ultimate irony being that a black man was one of the votes.

Well look on the bright side of the VRA’s demise. At least we don’t have to listen to Charlie Kirk rub it in our faces.

Has anybody's influence in American politics ever been exaggerated as much as that fucking twerp's?

Daniel's avatar

Possibly Rush Limbaugh's or Tucker Carlson's.

Charlie Kirk (pbuh) didn't ever have to do much to still allow people to rub his face in it.

He was briefly placed under his arrest as he entered the court for a first appearance and released without conditions minutes after his appearance.

The Voting Rights Act ended Jim Crow. SCROTUS gutted the VRA to bring Jim Crow back. This is not a judicial decision, it is a crime against humanity.

TOO damned bitterly accurate, comrade.

Once again it's going to get nasty in this nation.

"M"'s avatar

So now, already -- Florida, Tennesee, and Louisiana

Do people understand how the voting rights of all Americans (not just minorities, though the country is about to have an ugly lesson in how the voting rights of minorities have been propping up the Constitutional rights of ALL Americans, I'm afraid) are falling apart under this ruling in real time?

Just like when the most racist states raced to vote suppress and gerrymander under the Shelby County case in 2013 -- which John Roberts also wrote when too few people wanted to believe what some of us said he was and how then-Senator Hillary Clinton voted against his confirmation to SCOTUS in the first place -- which contributed greatly to the country being in the mess it is now

I think we're going to have to do more than hope

I'm not sure people understand the full ramifications yet

"According to our current Supreme Court, it is unconstitutional to use race to ensure Black representation in Congress, but it is also totally constitutional to use race to deny Americans their due process (see: ICE raids using race as justification).

Cool. Got it, John Roberts"

Pam Bondi to appear before House oversight panel over Epstein files

The House oversight and government reform committee has said that former attorney general Pam Bondi will now appear before the panel on 29 May to answer questions about the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation and its release of the Epstein files.

The announcement of the date came shortly after the Democrats on the committee announced that they had filed a civil contempt resolution against Bondi after she did not appear for her deposition earlier this month.

On Wednesday morning, Representative Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the committee, announced the contempt resolution, saying in a statement that Bondi had “illegally defied our committee, skipped her deposition, and has refused to cooperate”, adding that Democrats had introduced the contempt measure “to hold her accountable”.
