One of my college friends (later a confirmed Republican) became really uncomfortable once he figured out that I *do* have a strong sense of morality that is not backed up by some kind of reference text. Apparently some people really believe that one is required.
Or talk to WWII veterans like your parents. Very few left now, all in their 90s and more, but just ask them to tell you about Nazis. They are sweet old people, until you ask them about the Nazis.

Wouldn't help. Either they'd laugh and think what the death camps were doing was "cool", or claim it's all a lie and that the Holocaust didn't happen.
