Nice Prison Inmates Save Guard From Rapist, Can't Join Mens Rights Movement Now We Guess

We do not usually expect to read feel-good stories about rape, in prison, but what the hell? Up is down, black is white, cats and dogs, yadda yadda. So The Daily News brings us this story of an almost-rape that wasn't, thanks to some hero inmates who were like, "We might be hardened criminals, but that shit ain't right!"

A group of inmates rescued a female correction officer who was nearly raped by a hulking prisoner inside a locked vestibule on Rikers Island Saturday night, The Daily News has learned.

The inmates helped responding correction officers frantically tear away Plexiglas on the outside of the bubble-like watch post inside the Anna M. Kross Center at 8: 15 p.m., according to multiple sources.

Raleek Young, the alleged rapist, who is already a convicted rapist for this other time in 2007 when he raped a 13-year-old girl, was apparently caught on video, and you can go read some more of the sordid details of the attack if you really want to, but hey, we're trying to turn this lemon into lemonade by saying how nice it was of the other prisoners who jumped in to stop him.

Correction Officers Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook is super pissed Young wasn't immediately arrested that very second, but he has since been arraigned and "is facing a slew of new charges, including: attempted rape, sexual abuse, forcible touching, and assault and harassment." And as for the other inmates who intervened?

“I appreciate (them) helping a sister officer because that could have been their mother, wife or sister,” Seabrook said, noting 90% of the inmates “are there to do their time and go home.”

We appreciate it too, Hero Inmates, because no matter what crimes you committed that put you in Rikers Island in the first place, we are glad you were a bunch of "No, you cannot rape that lady!" heroes on that one day, thank you, the end.
