Where we count votes we have a reconciliation every 25-50 ballots. We all do the same number of course, it changes depending on how many counters there are on any given election night. Small town, all paper, no scans. I get to math, which is always fun.
Could be totally different elsewhere of course, I just know we do a form of it here.
Once again, Worst Justice since Taney has sealed his place in history as the Worst Chief Justice of All Time. Thanks to asshole Roberts the citizens of GA don't have the protection of preclearance anymore.
It's fantastic that Jimmy Carter has voted! We would expect no less from an old patriot like him. Also great to hear that the judge in Georgia has thus far frustrated the efforts of determined fascists in that state to bring the country down via the electoral system. It's a serious threat, what they're doing: the aim is to deny anyone getting to 270 EC votes, thereby throwing the decision to the House, where they would presumably have an advantage. Without sharp-eyed judges like the one mentioned in this article, they might well manage to steal the election legally.
Seriously, if the fuckery wasn't so blatantly obvious that you can't have it figured out by the certification date, then you really don't have any evidence of fuckery to begin with.
Yay. Thanks for reference to State-by-State voting regs. My mail-in ballot has been received and my State says it counts even if I die. Vote like Jimmy!
Not to be morbid, but I have been kind of wondering about the rules on Carter's vote. I'm glad Marcie addressed it. And I hope and pray he lives long enough to see Kamala inaugurated.
One hopes that officials are still allowed to deny certification when the results are clearly bonkers - like a district with a population of 5,000 returning a total of 6,000 ballots.....
I've filled out my ballot already, and will deliver it to a dropbox on the first day of early voting in my southwestern state, which will be this Friday.
Since I'll be out of town the weekend early voting begins, I have to do it Monday. But I am gonna hop, skip and jump over there to do it! And I will fill those Democratic bubbles in with extreme prejudice!
Chinese hackers compromised the U.S. government's wiretapping system, and were able to obtain the contents of communications collected based on court orders (https://www.axios.com/2024/10/15/salt-typhoon-hack-china-verizon-att). Including, it seems, FISA court orders that mandate electronic surveillance of foreign nationals on behalf of the N.S.A. That sound bad.
There's a lecture tonight I wasn't going to go to since it sounded like dude was going to blame every electronic failure ever in the U.S. on China, but now I'm feeling like I might have to go
OMG guys. Biden just abruptly ended a rally for Harris and swayed on stage for 40 minutes as the Village People played. NYT editorial board will demand his resignation for obvious cognitive decline any minute now!
But first! An all-expenses-paid trip to Clefetus Safari, GA, to talk with some "undecided voters" on why they'll never vote for Kamala and Trump has such a hold on them...in 3, 2, 1...
And all about how 'the GUBMINT' is so eville and won't do anything to help them after hurricanes...........while they spread lies and terrorist threats against FEMA.
There was a good one I saw at Glimmerglass, I think it was called "The Midnight Angel". The story was about these Victorian rich dudes who hosted a party to watch the angel of death take the daughter of one of the servants. It was back in my drinking days, so I don't remember much else.
"As faux medium Madame Flora guides her guest through her usual tricks and deceptions, she suddenly feels a hand touch her. The catch is, it wasn’t any of her guests. Thus, her spiral into madness commences. This opera is a great pick if you like a little madness and an ending that leaves you asking more questions than answers."
Turn of the Screw - Britten
Robert le Diable - Meyerbeer
"Robert le Diable follows the lead through misfortune and a fight to win his lover’s hand, all while being pursued by the spirits of hell. Also, there’s a scene featuring a ballet number performed by the spirits of dead nuns. Enjoy!"
The Lighthouse - Davies
"Inspired by a true story, this eerie story focuses on the traceless disappearance of a lighthouse crew. The first act lays out the investigation into their disappearance. The second act, however, takes us back to see what really took place for these three long-gone crewmen. How can one leave an island without a boat, supplies, or a trace?"
I got to help my mom fill out her ballot yesterday. She did the actual choices and such, voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, but she asked me what certain ballot things meant, and I helped explain them~ She's busy and doesn't have a lot of time for politics, but she's a proud D in Idaho~
The bond issues and assorted referenda are all pointlessly complicated (or intentionally?). No way those are meaningful votes if most voters cannot even understand what they're voting for or against.
DED PEOPLE VOTE IN GEORGIA!!!! RIGGED!!!! STOLLEN!!!!!

What this rule is about is counting how many ballots there are and making sure it matches the number of voters. People are freaking out over nothing.
I'm not a religious person, but God bless Jimmy Carter.
Fingers crossed that he sees in the Harris Administration.

Cleta Mitchell can't fool me; I know she's just five Cletuses fresh from safari in one big trenchcoat.
Cleti?

I also voted today, so that's two things we have in common!
Seriously, if the fuckery wasn't so blatantly obvious that you can't have it figured out by the certification date, then you really don't have any evidence of fuckery to begin with.
Yes, exactly. They'd still have no evidence if they spent a thousand years "investigating."

Let's win it for Jimmy!
Get your voting plan in action, friends!
Yes, let's make it so!
I've filled out my ballot already, and will deliver it to a dropbox on the first day of early voting in my southwestern state, which will be this Friday.
Well done!
He's a true American Hero!
And a hero for Canada too apparently!
We're big fans of good people.
Good people recognize it in others.
My plan is to early vote on Monday, the first possible day to do it.
As we've always said here in Louisiana, "vote early and vote often".
Got mine today!
Since I'll be out of town the weekend early voting begins, I have to do it Monday. But I am gonna hop, skip and jump over there to do it! And I will fill those Democratic bubbles in with extreme prejudice!

That sounds *really* bad

Speaking of the law, Mark Robinson is actually suing CNN et al for reporting about his pizza porn habits.

Hopefully he will get laughed out of court after discovery.
Discovery will be revolting.
"We ask that these documents be declared privates... er, I mean, non-public."
The press will have fun though.
Sadly I don't think it will actually get to discovery.
Because if it did it would be LIT.
Contnuing to draw attention to your perv curve probably isn't the wisest idea for an up and coming politician.
No pun intended.
peyronies ? …

Drumpfenfuehrer is two egg rolls short of a family special dinner.

If he went to a Japanese restaurant, he'd put the chopsticks in his ear

Jane Godley in hospice with terminal cancer still having a laugh. You might remember her holding a sign at a golf course in Scotland.

C'mon, Janey. Hang on three more weeks to see Pussy Ass Bitch mortified!
I adore her! I'm sorry to hear this news, though. I hope she lives to see him crushed.
She's known for quite some time now and has devoted her remaining days to championing trans rights.
OT: Is there any opera that is considered scary?
There was a good one I saw at Glimmerglass, I think it was called "The Midnight Angel". The story was about these Victorian rich dudes who hosted a party to watch the angel of death take the daughter of one of the servants. It was back in my drinking days, so I don't remember much else.
Oo! Thamkns.
Britten's "Turn of the Screw" might unnerve, depending on how you feel about kids menaced by ghosts. . . .
EDIT: as mentioned below [hat tip]
I think "Don Giovani" is scary....
“DON GIOVANNI-TU M’INVITASTI A CENA!”
Gilbert and Sullivan's "Ruddigore" is pretty spooky. It's not as well known as some of their others, but the music is excellent.
Dinner in The Bad Place....and no taxi back...

Ahh, thank you
Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor has a "mad" scene. Which part of the aria ends up in The Fifth Element.
Aha! Thanks, smart person.
Don Giovanni, if the final act is staged well.
Writing down this one too
(My claws hurt from holding the pencil)
The one young Bruce Wayne saw with his parents (depending on the interpretation).
Thus, Gilbert and Sullivan were created.
Wagner?
Anything by Wagner scares me.
Anything by Philip Glass or John Cage, but that is only if you have any musical sense.
A comment like that says more about the person making it than it does about its targets.
Okay. Firing up this birdie's ears.
The one about the clown?
Pagliacci?
I'll give it a listen.
Yes, that's it. :)

Of course. That's why she asked me to explain them. The referendums are worded intentionally to try to get people to vote against them.
Yay!
