DED PEOPLE VOTE IN GEORGIA!!!! RIGGED!!!! STOLLEN!!!!!

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Where we count votes we have a reconciliation every 25-50 ballots. We all do the same number of course, it changes depending on how many counters there are on any given election night. Small town, all paper, no scans. I get to math, which is always fun.

Could be totally different elsewhere of course, I just know we do a form of it here.

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

What this rule is about is counting how many ballots there are and making sure it matches the number of voters. People are freaking out over nothing.

I'm not a religious person, but God bless Jimmy Carter.

Fingers crossed that he sees in the Harris Administration.

Once again, Worst Justice since Taney has sealed his place in history as the Worst Chief Justice of All Time. Thanks to asshole Roberts the citizens of GA don't have the protection of preclearance anymore.

Cleta Mitchell can't fool me; I know she's just five Cletuses fresh from safari in one big trenchcoat.

It's fantastic that Jimmy Carter has voted! We would expect no less from an old patriot like him. Also great to hear that the judge in Georgia has thus far frustrated the efforts of determined fascists in that state to bring the country down via the electoral system. It's a serious threat, what they're doing: the aim is to deny anyone getting to 270 EC votes, thereby throwing the decision to the House, where they would presumably have an advantage. Without sharp-eyed judges like the one mentioned in this article, they might well manage to steal the election legally.

Biff52 Lost Canadian's avatar

I also voted today, so that's two things we have in common!

Seriously, if the fuckery wasn't so blatantly obvious that you can't have it figured out by the certification date, then you really don't have any evidence of fuckery to begin with.

simpledinosaur's avatar

Yes, exactly. They'd still have no evidence if they spent a thousand years "investigating."

Stanta Knows's avatar

Yay. Thanks for reference to State-by-State voting regs. My mail-in ballot has been received and my State says it counts even if I die. Vote like Jimmy!

avidlurker's avatar

Not to be morbid, but I have been kind of wondering about the rules on Carter's vote. I'm glad Marcie addressed it. And I hope and pray he lives long enough to see Kamala inaugurated.

Richard S's avatar

One hopes that officials are still allowed to deny certification when the results are clearly bonkers - like a district with a population of 5,000 returning a total of 6,000 ballots.....

SethTriggs's avatar

Let's win it for Jimmy!

Get your voting plan in action, friends!

simpledinosaur's avatar

I've filled out my ballot already, and will deliver it to a dropbox on the first day of early voting in my southwestern state, which will be this Friday.

My plan is to early vote on Monday, the first possible day to do it.

Puddinhead's avatar

As we've always said here in Louisiana, "vote early and vote often".

SethTriggs's avatar

Since I'll be out of town the weekend early voting begins, I have to do it Monday. But I am gonna hop, skip and jump over there to do it! And I will fill those Democratic bubbles in with extreme prejudice!

Chinese hackers compromised the U.S. government's wiretapping system, and were able to obtain the contents of communications collected based on court orders (https://www.axios.com/2024/10/15/salt-typhoon-hack-china-verizon-att). Including, it seems, FISA court orders that mandate electronic surveillance of foreign nationals on behalf of the N.S.A. That sound bad.

"M"'s avatar

That sounds *really* bad

There's a lecture tonight I wasn't going to go to since it sounded like dude was going to blame every electronic failure ever in the U.S. on China, but now I'm feeling like I might have to go

And I still don't wanna

Because if it did it would be LIT.

But first! An all-expenses-paid trip to Clefetus Safari, GA, to talk with some "undecided voters" on why they'll never vote for Kamala and Trump has such a hold on them...in 3, 2, 1...

OT: Is there any opera that is considered scary?

Anonymouse's avatar

There was a good one I saw at Glimmerglass, I think it was called "The Midnight Angel". The story was about these Victorian rich dudes who hosted a party to watch the angel of death take the daughter of one of the servants. It was back in my drinking days, so I don't remember much else.

oscarphile's avatar

Britten's "Turn of the Screw" might unnerve, depending on how you feel about kids menaced by ghosts. . . .

EDIT: as mentioned below [hat tip]

G-7 in Space's avatar

I think "Don Giovani" is scary....

Gilbert and Sullivan's "Ruddigore" is pretty spooky. It's not as well known as some of their others, but the music is excellent.

The Medium - Menotti

"As faux medium Madame Flora guides her guest through her usual tricks and deceptions, she suddenly feels a hand touch her. The catch is, it wasn’t any of her guests. Thus, her spiral into madness commences. This opera is a great pick if you like a little madness and an ending that leaves you asking more questions than answers."

Turn of the Screw - Britten

Robert le Diable - Meyerbeer

"Robert le Diable follows the lead through misfortune and a fight to win his lover’s hand, all while being pursued by the spirits of hell. Also, there’s a scene featuring a ballet number performed by the spirits of dead nuns. Enjoy!"

The Lighthouse - Davies

"Inspired by a true story, this eerie story focuses on the traceless disappearance of a lighthouse crew. The first act lays out the investigation into their disappearance. The second act, however, takes us back to see what really took place for these three long-gone crewmen. How can one leave an island without a boat, supplies, or a trace?"

I got to help my mom fill out her ballot yesterday. She did the actual choices and such, voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, but she asked me what certain ballot things meant, and I helped explain them~ She's busy and doesn't have a lot of time for politics, but she's a proud D in Idaho~

Brando's avatar

The bond issues and assorted referenda are all pointlessly complicated (or intentionally?). No way those are meaningful votes if most voters cannot even understand what they're voting for or against.

Dusty Tomes's avatar

Of course. That's why she asked me to explain them. The referendums are worded intentionally to try to get people to vote against them.
