I love that you pointed out the lack of diversity in legal backgrounds of federal judges. It makes a difference in rulings that isn't good for consumers, criminal defendants, workers, etc.
Yup.That matters just as much as everything else.No good at putting more women, people of color etc. on courts if they don't believe in fairness for all.
Court decisions are absolutely influenced by a lack of representation of public defenders, civil poverty lawyers (legal services who represent domestic violence victims, tenants in rental housing cases, etc.), plaintiff's employment discrimination attorneys, ACLU attorneys, etc., does make a difference in the decisions issued by the courts.
I was a prosecutor in my first job out of law school for a couple of years because I wanted to prosecute domestic violence offenders. Where I worked, it was almost like a cult. There was NO interest in justice and our elected DA cared only about whatever made the news at the time.
Is that worth keeping those two fucking DINO babies happy if the For The People Act dies on the vine today and democracy dies in two years? I don't think so ...
Winning is about more than the primary. No Bernie-type candidate will win the general in WV. In KY, Amy McGrath, Dem challenger to Mitch McConnell got tons of funding and came nowhere even close to defeating him. And she was a fairly middle of the road Dem.
I often hear this from Bernie people in blue states. I live in a purple/leaning red state and no one even close will get elected here anytime soon.
Why do you think Kirsten Synema has gotten so conservative since being elected? She's pandering because she thinks it will help her get reelected in a fairly conservative state. She's probably not wrong.
If funding mattered that much, Jaime Harrison would be our newest senator from South Carolina. There's just not enough left wing or even liberal voters in West Virginia. If we were talking about California, there might be a chance.
Pretty sure no one was saying otherwise. Also no one was arguing that having a vagina or brown skin automatically makes anyone a better jurist. It’s just nice to see the balance swing towards those of us who’ve been excluded for fucking ever, *all other things being equal*.
Back when I used to drive down there fairly regularly I always cracked up at the Jesus billboards followed up by strip-club billboards.
I saw that smirk as he put his phone away.
(Walter begs to differ)

That is so depressing and infuriating
How many of these great nominees have been approved by the Senate?

Obama made significant progress, he was largely hamstrung by a House run by Republicans for 6 of his 8 years.
Ta, Jamie Lynn.
Janis Ian's Between the Lines album is prolly one of the angstier albums evah.
