The doctor stuck on Everest had a wife back in Texas. She paid off a helicopter pilot to fly up, pick husband up, and DROP off the side of the camp to start the damn copter as they don't work well at altitude. The pilot could only pick up one. The doctor gave up his seat to another. The pilot made a second trip, risking his own life, and again the doctor tried to send someone else down...but he finally got to safety. He lost fingers and part of his nose to frostbite.
This made me tear up, much like Robyn's article the other day. I hope we continue to see more and more of the better side of humanity even under the worst of conditions. These small but powerful gestures give me hope.
To be fair Brooks is an adult Republican so he was clearly born without the capacity for empathy or affection, or the ability to comprehend either.

And this post is lovely but my brain is a total asshole, because it keeps reading "helpers" as "herpes".
Yes. Beck Weathers. His story is amazing.
He went on a speaking tour. One of my friends saw him at an event organized by IBM. He told us it was the most inspiring talk he had ever seen.

no, the slipstream makes the beer run up your face into your eyes, unless you wear goggles. Always wear protective gear.
