they might decriminalize pot but i have more serious doubt about legalizing it. maybe a sliver of sliver chance for medicinal with probably the strictest restrictions ever cuz, duh, Virginia.
sure, sure our demographics are changing, but they aint changing that fast yet, Cochise.
I get the impulse, but making election day a holiday doesn't really change much... people will still have to work, especially lower-wage and service industry people who have the least influence and are the least represented in government to begin with. Making it a holiday does nothing for them.
Also, there are usually multiple election days in a year - last year was an off year, but we still had four separate election days where I live, not all of which could be rolled into one day - it's not possible to have a primary and a general on the same day, or feasible to wait until November to fill a seat vacated in February.
I absolutely support making it easier to vote and expanding access to the polls... I just think it's a bad idea to take the focus off of other elections to do it.
Your vote counts. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't. Even the less-sexy, non-presidential-year elections have a tremendous impact on people's lives and can literally make history.
So tired of hearing blue people in my red home state bitch and moan about how their votes "don't matter anyway."I've heard that from enough people now that it could make a significant difference if those people actually, ya know, voted. Also heard a seriously disappointing number of people say that who also said "I voted for Jill Stein, because the other choices were worse!" I promise you, they were not.
Northam has endorsed a House bill that would remove the state holiday for Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, replacing it with one for Election Day. Adding insult to injury for Lee and Jackson, black people would also vote on this day.
"Horrors! This cannot be happening! Save us, Vladimir Putin!!!,1,1,1,11m,1,!1!" - Virginia Republicans, probably.
If she didn't I volunteer! I slap DiFi metaphorically a couple of times per month via email. I hates her, I do! We can do so much better than that barely tolerable, almost mealy mouthed, wishy washy old fart. Go home! Give someone under the age of 80 a chance to actually behave like a Democrat.
election holidays should be everywhere!!!!!
or shit, make voting on a saturday or sunday. also Ralphie wants to do away with mandatory accepted excuses for absentee voting.
about goddamn voting time.

Say it out loud.
John Hall...looked it up; quite a life for that fella. Taj is one of our go to's.
Vote in every election. That is all.

Stephen is such a gem for pointing this out for our enjoyment. What a great day it will be when we all do that!

Sarah Palin and Marsha Blackburn - "Hold our plastic glasses of cheap Walmart Chardonnay"
Virginia comes around at last. We can expect control to vacillate, but the ice (and the glass ceiling) has been broken.
Calvin passed last May. I adopted Frodo shortly afterwards. She is a cuddly little sweetheart.
They keep CHEATING. This is the state GOP who lied to Democrats to keep them away from the floor for a vote.
