Yes. The problem is voicing opinion gets twisted into accusations of curtailing expression that will end careers at it's worst, or just brings up nuisance lawsuits/investigations at it's best if someone challenges that opinion.

In politics, as with much of the rest of the world, perception is reality. Janet Reno, the AG under Clinton was famous for not paying anything less than sticker price for cars because she did not want to deal with the perception that she was using her position to get a better deal.
