Reminded me of the unusual south Texas freeze that knocked out power for millions. Called a lifelong buddy down there to make sure OK. He starts parroting Abbott saying the windmills done did it. He said this knowing I have some expertise on the subject. I told him South Texas utilities place their boilers and turbines outside with heat tape for occasional freezing to save money on buildings. They buy their wind turbines without freeze protection packages that are allowing the wind turbines I drove by in Iowa yesterday to do just fine. He of course told me I had no idea what I was talking about. Our relationship floundered and by the time Biden won we were done.

Good morning,

Amanda Marcotte:

'There’s a strong chance this investigation will lead nowhere. Trump’s Justice Department has already developed a reputation for bringing baseless, politicized cases that fall apart in court but still serve to appease the president’s sadistic aspirations. The logic is haywire: Not only is Trump reminding the public about E. Jean Carroll’s accusations, the case could be as doomed as the recent phony charges the department has brought against former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

'Trump is famously vindictive, obsessed with trying to rewrite history by relentlessly accusing people he has wronged of crimes against him. But the reported investigation into Carroll is about more than the president’s bottomless narcissism. It’s part of a larger, ongoing backlash against the #MeToo movement. Trump is just one of hundreds of accused men who are pulling out all stops to demonize women who speak out — and to scare other victims into silence.

'The bad news is this backlash has been successful in many regards, turning abusers into victims in the public eye and painting those who take a stand against sexual violence as nags and scolds. But the fact that Trump and his allies feel the need to keep relitigating the Carroll case suggests the forces of misogyny aren’t as victorious as the mainstream narrative might suggest. Victims may not have the money or power that their abusers have, but they still have the truth, and even in our disinformation-addicted age, that can matter. Siccing the Justice Department on Carroll is not a sign of Trump’s strength, but of his inherent weakness. He is so eager to intimidate survivors that he’s willing to pay the price of reminding Americans that E. Jean Carroll — and the harrowing, compelling story she tells — exists.'

It doesn't help in a Massachusetts court that the DOJ's filings were written in crayon.

In Mississippi that actually helps.

Hamilton & The Crew TEAM ALGAE's avatar

Now now, don't be a killjoy. It was definitely a step up from having the filing written in finger paint!

And that brown finger paint smelt TERRIBLE!

If you take that metaphor into account and think of Lionel Hutz. Then you get Trump's current DOJ.

Seriously I read some of their briefs. Full of grammar errors and spelling mistakes. I have drunk text people with more coherent thoughts.

VaselineHabits's avatar

I'm also confused by the phrasing. Like I want a breakdown of what they're considering "expenses" and what the calculations are.

It's a reflecting Jen!'s avatar

mmm

I've seen expenses as rent+gas+groceries+bills, which is comprehensive enough, but I've also seen it as JUST rent+bills, and also as just rent.

So really need their metric here.

Judging from how everything in this admin fudges and lies, I am willing to guess it used to be calculated with all four, but now they are just calculating with rent to make the percentages look smaller, and hoping no one notices.

Free beach's avatar
