We'd probably watch this 'Northern Exposure' spinoff. Back in March, when we started our project of profiling all 34 U.S. Senate races in the 34 weeks until November's election, we were shocked, shocked to see that Alaska's Lisa Murkowski didn't have any Democratic challengers, which seemed awfully irresponsible, even fatalistic, of Alaska Dems, but then we noticed that there was still a filing deadline of June 1. And by golly, a bunch of people
When she was first elected as Governor she was nonpartisan, and was easy for the Democrats and Republicans to work with. She was very progressive. She took on the Oil Companies over taxes, their use of contractors from the south, Alaskans not working in the oil patch etc. She hired a friend of mine as Commissioner of Labor, she pushed all state agencies to hire unskilled help in craft positions and train them as genuine apprentice's. After the losing the election with McCain, she became insufferable, everyone as glad to see her quit.
I met Todd in Prudhoe Bay years ago. He worked for BP at the time, they were organizing a Union in their workplace. I was working as a Union goon at the time. I liked him, he was, and is a decent person.
I can remember many Christmas's where the presents under the tree were food we wouldn't normally buy. There was no form of welfare that I remember. If you didn't hunt or fish, there was no meat. Both my parents worked, as we did as soon as we were old enough. When I was 6 I went commercial fishing with my father and older brother. I hate salmon to this day.
Yes, the Hill Country is beautiful. I tell people that when you go west of San Antonio on I-10, there are really only three hills in that part of the state. They just jump up and run ahead of the car while you're not looking.

6 Sorta catholic kids on welfare, my mother's Jewish friends provided most of the presents.
I don't know.
Are you related to Gary Ackerman by any chance?
Thank you! I thought there was something really wrong with me.
Just now heard of him. From what I see he sounds similar to Vonnegut, no?
Would you please quit implying that all Alaskans are like those Wasilla hillbillies??? /FFS
Born in Juneau in the territory days. The pipeline years changed Alaska. I didn't care how they did it in Texas then and I don't care now.
Yes, the annual appearance of mandarin oranges.
Hoof shoes.
I had to go back and look, and sure enough, you are right! Cracked me up...
Is he up for the Noble Prize?

Well, sure - but to compensate,it is a BrownBackian utopia.
Alaska is OK. I'd give Texas or Arizona away first.
