We just returned from a road trip that took us through some of the Trumpiest parts of this half of the country: Western NC, Southwest VA, WV, KY, IN, Southern IL, Central MO on the westbound leg, then back through a different stretch of Southern IL, still MORE of KY (between the two legs, we probably veered almost the entire state) and most of Middle TN, before a layover in Nashville, then East TN and a different part of Western NC before returning home. We've made similar runs in the past, and the decrease in pro-Trump paraphernalia -- billboards, flags, signs, barn murals, the fucking semi trailer some guy had parked in one of his fields, the custom wraps on the F350s... all of it muted or simply missing. Even on the highways (and a few byways) the bumperstickers were notable when we saw them mainly because of their scarcity. It's almost like nobody really wants to flaunt their MAGA anymore. If it weren't for the unrelenting crush of yapping the media, it would have seemed almost normal. Like... Bush era. Remember when we figured that was as bad as things could get?
