I am haunted by the thing Anne Applebaum wrote about Ingraham at the end of that book she wrote about how conservatives she was friends with and married to had become the raging fascists everyone on the left had long been saying they were and how it was completely unexpected. She added a whole chapter about her specifically. She wrote in a sympathetic tone about how Ingraham had been so broken by the end of Reaganism, and so dedicated to re-establishing it, that she would do anything, say anything, be party to anything that promised to resurrect it as the governing ethos of the US.
I felt genuinely no sympathy for her at all, only a further disappointment in Applebaum. However, it does seem to indicate some things about Reaganism that a lot of old conservatives probably don't want to accept.
Applebaum does serious work but has always been, at heart, someone with a vulgar Eastern European peasant mentality automatically loving Reagan and his successive dimwit evil Republicans. I don't trust anything she's ever written.
