There was a scary story in the 4/6 NYer that I just read tho I never read their yawn-provoking stories. It's from a grandfather to his grandson partly in response to the question 'how could you have let this happen?' Apparently Trump has won again and all that we cherished in the country has been destroyed-- things we never thought could happen and the grandfather says 'we just thought he was such a fool' etc. The author is George Saunders. The grandfather says just what I'd say 3 years from now. "I sent money to candidates, but I got so mad then I couldn't be mad all the time..."Brrrrrr-r so scary and lifelike.
The absolutely incomprehensible thing is not all Repugs are rich! There are a fuckton of them who are poor and hungry and exploited, who work paycheck to paycheck, who have no sick leave, who are suffering as much as anyone in this crisis (not to mention every day of their normal lives). And yet these people continue to vote against their own best interests. And for fucks sake, it can’t be that their leaders are so charismatic that they are swayed by their rhetoric...I mean look at fucking Mitch McTurtle! He’s like someone’s creepy grandpa they keep in the attic got dipped in paraffin. WTAF is wrong with these people?!?!?
I read it a few years ago, and often found myself skipping over literally pages and pages of blather...and I was still easily able to keep track of the “characters” and the “storyline.”
