I've been reminded of the time a few years ago when IndieWire, a website that covers news in the film industry, published an article called something like "100 best films directed by women of all time." The comments were full of misogynists who were very angry about the article, but not all for the same reasons.
Some of the commenters were furious that the MAN-HATER female-supremacist feminazis at IndieWire were discriminating against men by making a list of only women. Where's the list of 100 greatest films directed by men, huh?!?
Some of the commenters were outraged that the woman-hating male supremacists at IndieWire had placed The Matrix number 20 on the list of 100 films, thereby denying cis women their sex-based right to a list of films directed only by biological adult human females.
And many of the commenters made both complaints in the same post. The publication of a list of 100 films is both discrimination against men propagated by man-hating female supremacists, and also discrimination against women propagated by woman-hating male supremacist TRAs because only 99 of the films were directed by cis women.
For some 20 years now I have "authored" a website (http://www.ladybisonsports.org/lbsFront.html) that highlights the exploits of the girls' sports teams at our local high school. I include news media articles, photos and even some of "those pictures that move" as I've recently heard them described. Since I started the site some years after Title IX came along I've needed to do some digging in older publications to try to fill in some of the historical voids. One interesting thing I found was an article in the 1924 school yearbook in which one brave female staffer decried the disparity between the athletic opportunities available to the two genders. Keep in mind that this was written in 1924 by a female high school student.

Just at the present time, the division features in Athletics is
inequitable. In those things intended to develop both mind and body
the girls' participation is in the background. While we boost to the
top the boys' sports with the "true blue" spirit known to C.H.S., we
feel that if such games as Hockey, Volley Ball, and Track were includ-
ed in the general course for girls that there would be more satisfaction
and enthusiasm. But instead of all these visions being realized, we
must be content with a little basket ball.
Schools are built up, interest enhanced, and promotions insured by
an equity in the pleasures as well as the hardships. Equity is justice -
a just regard to right or claim and if I were a poet, I would write (to
remain permanently on the blackboard) these words:
"These are best for you and me
And let it be our constant plea
To dwell in Love and Equity"
Our mothers had the constitution amended to give them an equal pos-
ition and all we, the girls of Clearfield High, ask is to be given a more
satisfactory position in the line of sports. When this is done, we shall
feel we have been recognized in such manner that befits the major
enrollment of the school."
I was able to determine the name of the author and I showed it to her nephew and he said "Yep, that sure sounds like Aunt Katherine" who I guess never pulled any punches. I was also happy to find that more than a few of her grand-nieces have taken part in sports at the school.
That's why 60 years ago they taught us CYO girls the granny-shot-from-between-the-knees free throw. We could simultaneously make ham sandwiches, protect our mysterious little female innards from jostling, and offer up a Hail Mary.
