β€œThe main prey items of the Northern Saw-whet Owl are mice, and especially deer mice of the genus Peromyscus. Saw-whets usually eat adult mice in pieces, over the course of two meals.”

So Saw-whet owls love meeses to pieces?

Also, the nest turns into a shithole after the female leaves? That sounds about right.

There sure are a lot of superb owls this week. Is there something going on? Hah, like it’s some sort of Superb Owl week!

It took me until today to figure out why there were so many owls this week.

Owls are the best.

I remark on them enough, because the tabs that follow generally blind me with rage, but your hed gifs are wonderful and welcome and heartening and artful and I love them and appreciate the way you soften the blow that follows. Thanks, M. Glambassador

Don't call us Stasi!

"A new report from The Washington Post examines how the Department of Homeland Security is utilizing administrative subpoenas to intimidate and target critics of the Trump administration. The Post reports on a 67-year-old retiree who wrote a polite, dissenting email to a federal prosecutor β€” and quickly found his Google account subpoenaed. Unlike conventional subpoenas, administrative subpoenas don’t need to be issued by a judge or grand jury, and can be swiftly green-lit by DHS officials. These subpoenas can then be used to demand information like employment records, IP addresses and other personal data." [HuffPost]

Hey errbody, I have a subtitle for the Melania movie, inspired slightly by raw milk:

"The Thong is Gone, but the Malady Lingers On."

John Thorstensen's avatar

I see that state rep is "turning up the heat" on raw milk producers.

Apparently, 145 F for 30 minutes should do just fine.

Oh, and "ballerina" being used as a tradwife signifier? My daughter, an actual ballerina, would have thoughts about that, I'm sure.

The press and 'reviews' of MELANOMA: The Movie are far too kind to the First HOBITCH.

I dreamed I was at the airport but it didn’t look like an airportβ€”it was a villa on a swirling hill. All the planes that took off would immediately flip upside down and continue flying. I asked why and someone told me it was because the passengers weren’t holding hands.

I know this is so yesterday, but I am still hung up on why it is that no Republican Congresspersons attended the congressional hearing about the shootings by ice agents. I just would like to understand how that works because the optics are such that it really comes across as arrogant and entitled. I’m so confused. When I was getting paid for going to work, I had to actually go to work.

Also, if somebody told them that they shouldn’t go, doesn’t that mean that they’re working for the person who told them not to go, and not the actual constituents in the state they came from?

This is actually a serious question and I would really like some help understanding this.

Mavenmaven's avatar

Look at any issue of the New York Post or other MAGA rags. It is all about non-white criminals and other horror stories and anything about this reality is completely distorted (continued defamatory stories about the victims of ICE, etc), so they know their voters don't care what they actually do.

Tommy Mo's avatar

I don’t think it was a formal Congressional hearing. More like a forum organized by Democrats. Also, too, the Republicans are spineless cowards and they don’t give a fuck.

Babe Paley's avatar

I was surprised at the same thing. It wouldn’t hurt to appear. Even if you’re a terrible person you can still say β€œI wanted to listen to them fairly β€œ and then pivot to their talking points about β€œwe need to support our brave law enforcement.”

Every spring, I do taxes for the AARP. Yesterday was my first day. My first client was a Hispanic guy. I had to ask him for identification -- we're concerned about identity theft. He pulled out his passport.

I did my best to conceal my shock, but actually I was on the verge of tears. It's one thing to read about ICE killing people and carting them off to third-world dungeons, but it's quite another to actually see the nuts-and-bolts of how ICE is affecting people's lives.

We've got to stop them.

So IF my phone is listening to me even when off and IF I watch wuxia on you tube and it listens to me hearing Mandarin will it assume I am bilingual? Perhaps I should start watching telenovela too also!

Mavenmaven's avatar

yes. I listen to a lot of K-pop and get ads in Korean routinely on all my devices.

So Elmo is asking for $80 a month plus taxes and fees for broadband service he doesn’t intend to actually provide? Y’all Spectrum offers Internet service for $25 a month (plus $10 a month if you need to rent a modem) for EBT recipients.
