Well put. The only thing you left out is the main focus of GOP policy, Feudalism 2.0, Concentrate the wealth among the wealthy, Privatize the profit from what were once public services and socialize the losses.
Instead, why doesn't the NYT send a reporter to interview Vangelis and find out why he hasn't released anything half as good as "Heaven and Hell" in almost 40 years?
I was raised in the ELCA and I admit, it's been a long time since I was a part of any faith. My father's funeral was the first time I had attended a church service in years. But I do remember going to Sunday School and Catechism and learning about the tenets of the faith. There was lots of stuff about the resurrection and love thy neighbor and quite a bit of uptight stuff regarding sex before marriage, but I don't remember ever being taught that hating gays was a "core value" of Christianity.
The Romans, like most ancient people, had a different view of religion than modern people do. To them, religion was something you did, not something you belonged to. They didn't really care what their subjects believed so long as they didn't do anything that might offend the gods. That's why they were very flexible in terms of what gods people worshiped and just assumed other peoples were worshiping the same gods under different names.
The biggest faux pas was refusing to perform any rituals in honor of the gods, since that could offend the gods and cause them to withhold their favor from the Empire. Thus, "atheism" as they defined it (living apart from the gods) was seen as disloyalty to the Empire. This is where the Christians were seen as trouble makers. They refused to perform rituals for any gods except their own and encouraged others to do so as well.
She can value 'submitting' (nudge nudge, wink wink!) to her husband all she wants. But she can't force the rest of the U.S. to join in her weird little sex game.
No wonder if he and the pastor will do some good old-fashioned wife-swapping afterwards. We know Roger is into that. Not that I want to kink-shame anyone, but . . .
ZING!
If I can't exclude non Christians from the merriment, and good cheer, what's the point of Christmas at all?

If these people genuinely believed in Hell, they'd act a lot differently - it's a lust for control, pure and simple.

When did that happen?
"Trump cannot executive order the rest of us to convert to Christianity..." But he can try.
Nero just used them as scapegoats for arson. Diocletian was the one who actively tried to stamp them out.

It won't stop them from trying.
So, newly commuted felon Roger Stone is doing the fundagelical church service to talk about how much he loves Jesus now.

Ew.
Bingo!!
Put this article in a burqa and these same people would be screaming, “Sharia law, Sharia law” like demented parrots.
The fun begins when you ask them about the tenets of Sharia.
Yes, I use the "what specific policy of Obama's made your life worse? They never can tell me.
Good point.
