Yes, delaying the mandate six weeks would have completely satisfied the Tea Party and there'd have been no shut down. This is a completely true premise on which to base an argument on and then get upset over. Morons.

All these people 'confused' by deadlines and fines shouldn't even <i>try</i> to understand Medicare. Their poor heads will 'splode.

It's even more messy since retirement has been upped to 66, but Medicare has to be signed up for when you're 65 so there's overlap of company provided insurance (if your lucky and working) and Medicare deadlines that can cause you higher costs in penalties for not signing up for Part B and Part D in time, even though you're already covered by your work policy. It used to be fine when everything kicked in at 65, but now it's a complete clusterfuck that you have to pay people to understand for you.
