The midterm effect isn't coincidence. Winning Presidential campaigns bring supporters to the polls, and OfA was particularly effective at GOTV. Losing that for midterms is an objective drag on the President's party.

just saturday, i had an argument with a lovely wizened woman missing several teeth. she swore up and down someone she knew in a hospital was being trained - trained i tell you - to administer death panels and rationing ("if an 80 year old comes in with a bad hip...well granny is just going die i guess").
i didn't completely convince her, but i did at least get her to take a brochure.
