They were maybe looting museums as a healthy sign of "pent-up feelings" against Saddam, even.

They were exuberantly embracing their newfound Crapitalist economy by acting Iike common TFG's.

Wasn't Rumsfeld the one who wanted to invade Iraq right after 9/11 because "there were no targets" in Afghanistan? I always found that to be a truly bizarre statement. No targets there? Besides the people who organized and planned the attack itself? WTF was he talking about?

I may have remembered the part about Ohio incorrectly. See, that's part of the problem. My memory of hearing him say they shot the plane down is clear, but I seem to have added "in Ohio". This is not uncommon with memories.

So like I said, maybe I interpreted his remark the way I did because I had been assuming the plane was shot down by our people. Still, if that was the case, why was the interview edited?

It doesn't actually matter, except for me, it was one more piece of evidence that the SecDef during an attack on us and the beginning of a war was a blithering idiot.

I'd only just started to become politically aware about the time Rumsfeld was ousted from office, so I never learned how much of a cretin he was.

Who would have imagined back then that this Donald would actually be insignificant to the one that would follow.

the plane that crashed in PA was headed west and was right around the nuclear power plant in Toledo when it was highjacked. The highjackers turned it around and were headed back east when it went down just east of the border in western PA. so yea, if the jets were scrambled out of say, Wright Patterson, and hit the plane right at the border I could see where it would be correct to say they caught up with them in Ohio. When I saw a map of flight path of that plane I always wondered if the nuclear power plant sitting on the largest source of fresh water in the country might have been a potential target.

Some years ago, I called him a fat fuck at Taos Pueblo on Christmas Eve. One of his secret service detail snorted. It was one of my proudest moments, even though I embarrassed my daughter.

Ohio would definitely have been on the flight path, however, and as fast as those things travel, a shot fired from Youngstown, say, could've taken into PA to have an effect. At least that's how I read it.

Rummy and his crew were slavering over Iraq before 9/11 even happened. If anything, 9/11 and the fuckup in Afghanistan *delayed* the Iraq invasion. What I, to this day, do not understand, is WTF they were expecting. No, this was not a crusade just to soothe W's daddy issues (although that may have been a part). If it was all "for the oil" I feel like we would have, y'know, taken the oil. If it was for some intricate geopolitical redistricting of power balance, then . . . we get ISIS?

But, now that we've been through a Trump "administration", I'm starting to think the answer is that these guys were really just that fucking incompetent. Didn't even think their horseshit past the boom-boom phase. Pulled Saddam out of his spider hole and were like, "OK, what now?"
