I had to change up my strategy a bit for this one. For my 1st 2 tries, I usually use 2 words that use all 5 vowels & some rather common consonants, with no overlap between the two. (A couple of times I come close enough on the 1st word to just go for it, but I’ve only gotten it right on the 2nd try once.)
Today, that strategy got me only 1 letter after the 1st 2 tries, which was not good. On my 3rd & 4th tries I ended up using words with at least one letter that had already been eliminated, simply because I wanted to either get or eliminate more consonants, which enabled me to get it on the 5th try. If I hadn’t done that, I don’t think I would have guessed it by the 6th try, so I remain undefeated!
Since these are the people they recruit to be cops, I'm not sure how this gets fixed. Rule following, authoritarians with less than "above average intelligence" are never going to be the proactive thoughtful cops we all want.
I'm one of those guys who always uses ADIEU as the first word. Some say that's cheating, but I say it's no different than always playing P-K4 as your opening chess move. Anyway, on move #4, I had to do the same thing as you: use an eliminated letter just to get something up there. I missed on #5 only because I didn't think the bastards would be low enough to repeat TWO letters.
Beyond a natural respect for a senior officer, note that the rooks would have faced some shit if they had in fact done what they were morally obliged to do. They should have done it anyway (and presumably found another line of work) so that's just the kind of fucked-up situation we've made for ourselves, and they lose.
The notion that "Legally speaking, police have no legal obligation to protect someone from harm": The Law is an Ass. As a First Responder (cops are FRs same as EMTs and schoolteachers, et al) one has a "Duty of Care" if one enters into a situation, and in a Socialist society that would apply to everyone.
What's America coming to when cops aren't free to slaughter anyone when want? Next thing you know, we won't be able to savage trans kids and treat them like dirt. This is the End of Civilization, I tells ya!
A combination of "just following orders" and "we didn't understand what was happening cause we're dumb and we weren't looking and we figured out boss know what he was doing..."
I await the inevitable backlash that this generates. I am certain that this singular, isolated accountability moment is going to be weaponized by arguing that it, alone, is responsible for making it impossible for police to do their jobs because of the fear they have as a consequence of it. And this argument will be advanced by exactly those voices who are, at the same time, utterly dismissive of policing misconduct (and worse) and the distrust that generates, claiming those must be viewed as singular, isolated incidents and not representative.
You know what? Yes the fuck we can. We spent a lot of time and money training that officer. We spent a lot of time and money creating the rules under which they operate.
IMHO, unless you are using hints, or maybe some kind of computer-generated algorithm, I don’t think you can really “cheat” at Wordle. I started off by using different starting words, but now use the same one every time, and usually the same 2nd word also.
Today’s word was the most difficult I’ve seen for the reason you mentioned, but I’ve sometimes had to go to 6 tries, even though I had all but 1 letter in the right place by the 3rd try, just because there were multiple words that fit.

This has been my TED talk about today’s Wordle. 😁
As physicians, my husband and I have seen in it multiple times. Even people whose parents died decades prior cry out for their mother.

I don't think the defenses the men made were true, but if they were then they did not have the judgment or ethics to be in any position of power.

We were just following orders!
officers who stand by and watch as they do so will be held accountable
And hopefully those who retaliate against officers who intervene.https://twitter.com/DCohenN...
Way late to the party, but Beau talked about this this morning:https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Beau talked about this very subject today:https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I'm trying to remember it, but there's a song lyric where they note that every dying soldier cries for his mother.
