Calling it right now: Thomas will cast the deciding vote to overturn Loving v. Virginia.

This decision was a foregone conclusion, but it is still enough to make you puke. Alito, Thomas and Roberts are at the top of my all-time "Fuck you and everyone associated with you list."

“Redistricting for partisan advantage “ is fine.

Shit. Do I live in the same society as these monsters? On the same planet? Fuuuuuck!

Look. No.

Just, no.

We are not going to vote our way out of this problem. It's sooooooo far beyond a political solution at this point. The best time for a political solution would have been the year I was fucking born. After the year I was born, a political solution was going to be completely untenable.

I'm sorry to say it ... but people, an unthinkable number of people, are going to end up getting hurt to finally remedy this syndrome of problems.

I was born in 1980.

A long history and tradition of racism and brutality. There's a reason that being "sold down the river" was a bad thing.

Brits used to claim that (non-whites) start at Calais. Now it appears, in the USA, voting rights for non-whites end with Callais.

Anyone else want to see bespoke gallows for all of those fascist hacks? Maybe with some nice engraving or something?

TheGreatAndPowerfulMormos!'s avatar

Nah, they don't have to be bespoke.

Which is pretty much exactly what came to light when Stephanie Hofeller found her deceased father's files documenting his work with the GOP to disenfranchise anyone who wasn't a white Republican. The fascists fought tooth and nail to make sure those files never saw the light of day just like the Epstein files.

I dunno. I have learned so much about the South since Assmouth 2, I wonder how much is redeemable. The stuff we put up with in the PNW is nothing in comparison. I feel sorry for normal people who live there and can't move. I feel sorry for me, because I blew my chance to leave the country.

My kids both have plans to leave the country and are teaching their kids to embrace being world citizens.

I've said it elsewhere and I'll probably be saying it years from now: the only regime change we should be doing is the kind that should have happened after the civil war: completely eradicating the Republican governments in old Dixie and replacing them with actual, functional systems.

They were never legitimate in the first place, since they had to cheat, lie, and slaughter their way into power and KEEP doing all that to enshrine themselves as rulers in perpetuity.

And while I'm whistling for the moon, there also needs to be a massive, coordinated push to make anything even remotely culturally similar to the Confederacy societally radioactive. Including but not limited to the Confederate flag, Confederate statues, and 99% of country music as a fucking genre.

The military has plenty of practice doing it overseas, and Trump's already training them to do that shit at home, much to Republican delight. Let them do it to the bastards who are actively trying to turn us into the Confederacy mixed with the fourth reich.

Laws and shit have basically gone out the window at this point, and it's not getting any better. If Republicans want to play stupid games, let them have the consequences for once.

Disclaimer: I know this will never happen in real life, but goddamn it would be nice.

In the midst of this long-running white supremacist coup I hold on to one slim hope, which is that finally, it's all come to a head. There are no more grey areas or nuances behind which the GOP can hide. Certainly the corporate media will continue to aid and abet, but we Americans are not all dumb, and with the ongoing trend away from party affiliation and the starkest possible reality of the abject failure of Republican leadership that we're (barely) enduring, I do believe the scales are falling from a lot of eyes. If we can harness this discontent and help people to opt in to change, rather than opting out of participation entirely, we have a chance. I hope sincerely that it won't take another civil war (a kinetic one, as Sec Shit-Faced would say) and that this awfulness is enough to change complacent minds. But then, I live in hope.
