No, it was SCOTUS that gave us 90% of the progress we have made in this country not politics in the legislative branch. Roe, Ogerfell, Brown v Board of Education. But since Kennedy started voting conservative last year (was BLACKMAILED) they have reversed a few things that make the fascist hearts sing, racial gerrymandering, allowing the travel bans, destroying labor unions, a major abortion rights loss (In a 5-4 decision in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v Becerra, the court blocked a California law that had sought to ensure that women seeking help from religiously affiliated “crisis pregnancy centers” would be advised that abortion was a legal option. The court ruled that the centers were not required to provide information they found objectionable. Trump did not publicly comment on the decision.) and workplace arbitration/right to sue: Workplace arbitrationIn a 5-4 ruling in Epic Systems Corp v Lewis, the court ruled that employers may require employees to waive their right to participate in a class action or class arbitration as a condition of hiring. The ruling means that employees who are not paid a legal wage or who are forced to work overtime could also be forced to enter arbitration with their employers individually instead of as a group.

Next up, Gamble and it's ability to end dual sovereign doctrine making Trumpsky pardons final and plenary, it would put not just Tsar Cheeto above the law but anyone he deems worthy of his pardon above the law. The rule of law (what little is left of it) will be meaningless.

And I am watching for the political persecution of Clinton and Feinstein as the kick off to scapegoating political opponents. Trumpsky and the GOP have often called for an FBI investigation into alleged and entirely fictional democrat collusion with Putin and they just proved FBI director Wray will give Trumpsky ANYTHING he wants in the way of investigations and final reports, so lock her up is no longer a joke, they will write a report that shows Mrs. Clinton not only colluded with Putin but is deputy director of the GRU and is sleeping with George Soros, all the while exonerating Fat Ass. And the GOP has called for an investigation into the leak of the letter from Dr. Ford accusing Kavanaugh of sexual aggression. As well as other persons accusing him.

And I have to say, I would not want to be Stormy or Mr. Avenatti right now. We have entered a period of political housecleaning in which freedom of speech is a thing of the past. Even our dear Wonkette will be targeted, if not in obvious and direct ways like being disappeared to a FEMA camp in the desert then by internet throttling that will see her circulation drop near zero. This IS the shit hitting the fan.

If Manchin is a democrat I will eat his soiled panties!

Manchin SHOULD be drummed out of the party, with democrats like him who needs fascist republicans? I will say this, if I were a democrat in WV I would be upset enough at his vote to NOT vote for Manchin next month. At least with the GOP you know what you are getting, corruption and fascism.

Schumer made sure he wasn't the deciding vote and told him to vote as his constituency wanted him to. I think that is smart and a very NOT Republican thing to do.

Well, I suppose we need to keep a Democrat in his seat, but Christ Almighty he's gonna have a tough time getting his balls out of hock.

What if the Dino is anti-choice and pro-gun, too? Does the Democratic party stand for anything anymore?

I'm thinking that Brown vs. Board of Education, Loving vs. Virginia, and a whole passel of other rulings that expanded freedoms for African-Americans are going to come in for close scrutiny -- if not outright challenge -- by the Gorsuch/Kavanaugh/Thomas court. (Because, let's face it, those three are more than likely the ones who are going to pen the majority of the opinions that will send us into the Republic-of-Gilead-esque legal oblivion/abyss that awaits us.)

It's spelled "grizzly", but putting "lie" at the end does fit that corrupt, empty-headed, greedy Barbie better.

Late Friday evening and I just came across Evan Hurst's article, "Oh J....Christ, go fuck yourself, Joe Manchin". Title pulled me in, the read is right on brilliant.

Don't know when or why you decided to morph into a fauxgressive Andrew Sullivan - on a weekend, no less - but you do have a choice to elect not to try to force having the last word (like my grandmother)

However, I'm an American just like you, so I fully understand how much difficulty white men in the full flower of their white male rage, trying to bully the rest of us, have with that sort of thing

There is NO moderate wing in the Republican Party anymore. None. There's stragglers, but not enough to be a "wing" or "faction" of any significance.

Democrats still have Blue Dog centrists and pro-business New Democrats. We may not agree with them all the time, but they're important voices and they sharpen our arguments.

Republicans - all batshit, all the time.

Don't be so sure. Joe is in a very precarious position here, & I'm NOT defending him. They LOVE Trump here, why, I don't know, as he's made life in WV WORSE, if possible. But there's a referendum on the ballot this election - SJR12, poised to cut state Medicaid funding of abortion, & it will IMMEDIATELY trigger the outlawing of all abortion in the state if Roe is overturned. It's religious right ballot bait, nothing more or less. And it's expected to work like a charm. SJR-12 is entitled "no constitutional right to abortion"; it's a proposed amendment to the state constitution & thus HAS to be on the general election ballot in order to be adopted. Goddamn toothless WV State Democratic party did nothing to mount an opposition to it during 2018 legislative session, altho plenty of other groups sure did.
