As much as I may regret it, what's the origin story behind the nickname "Fleshbeard"? Yes, I'm already throwing up in my mouth a little thinking about it...

There is a Facebook page "California sucks". If you are really into discovering (or maybe rediscovering) how stoopid the stupid is in the GOP, that is the site. Buncha morans!

Ta, Robyn. I still think the crystals Prat sells are more likely to be methamphetamine than quartz.

Suel J's avatar

I feel I'm screaming into the void. Pratt is an ignorant loudmouth. And every Republican is now whining like a baby that this guy is losing. Because they aren't "winning". Lolol.

These intolerant pricks never stop!

The Christian nationalist megachurch Mercy Culture is hoping to "unseat the demonic principality" of Pride Month by getting the federal government to designate June as Life Month.

Is Pratt the one whose solution for homelessness is to execute the homeless because they ruin his line of sight?

Bitter Scribe's avatar

Nah. He just hangs with guys like that.

I still have no idea who Spencer Pratt is.

Tecolote's avatar

No need to know.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

May you not have to learn.

I have only the vaguest idea: he's some guy who was on a reality tv show, behaved like or was portrayed as an asshole, and (checks notes) sold crystals??

Now, this may be a willful thing, a deliberate refusal to understand something, but Republicans seem incapable of grasping the idea that early returns in an election are often not representative of the population as a whole. It could be because rural areas, with fewer votes to count and whose voters tend to favor Republicans, report first; it could be because mail-in votes arrive later, get counted later and maybe favor Democrats.

In any case, Republicans don't seem to get the idea that having the most votes among those tabulated & reported early does not constitute "having the lead." No, it just means you did better among those voters whose votes happened to be reported first.

And once again, I'm reminded of Trump's tweet on election night in 2012, calling for a march on Washington D.C. to protest "this travesty of an election." He thought that because Romney held the "lead" in the popular vote when the networks started calling it for Obama, that Romney had won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College. In fact, the polls had just closed on the west coast, and they had barely started counting in California, Oregon, Washington & Hawaii, where it was known that Romney would lose by a substantial margin.

And of course once they counted those votes, Obama came out ahead. But to this day, there are Republicans who believe that Obama lost the popular vote in 2012. I know, because I encountered them doing polling from 2014-2020.

The numbers don't mean anything until you count all the votes. That's how elections work, but if there's one thing I know, it's that the nuances in the workings of even a mildly complex system are beyond Republican understanding. You see it in every area up for political discussion: the economy, the climate, pandemics, scientific research etc. etc. etc.

Republicans want to make all their decisions based on what they think are unassailable first principles without thinking through a problem to its foreseeable consequences. They don't want to think in any depth, because deep down, they are shallow.

pskbh's avatar

Hee Hee! I love *...deep down, they are shallow.*

Bitter Scribe's avatar

IMO this is all Trump, and the rest of the Republicans pretend to believe it because they're terrified of him. Trump's belief that if you count votes after midnight on Election Day it means you're cheating is as fixed, as immovable, and as thoroughly irrational as his beliefs that trade deficits mean we're being ripped off or that tariffs are paid entirely by exporting countries.

TerseNurse's avatar

I think you may be giving them WAY too much credit.

as in, you won't hear them crying foul if the Repub starts out behind in the counts, but catches up as the rural ballots are counted.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it boils down to they only are willing to accept election results that they like, reality be damned

GH Swell's avatar

I think absolutely this is about sowing distrust in the normal election process, by treating and spreading disinformation at face value and taking away voting access where it helps Republicans.

GH Swell's avatar

It’s as much that their existence depends on spreading lies and stupidity.

WTH is wrong with Los Angelenos that they would vote for this asshole? Is the sun burning a hole in your heads? Isn't it enough that we have a reality show clown in the WH, that they want a reality show clown in the mayor's office? Jeez, get a freakin' brain!

We know how to fix homelessness problems. Other countries have basically done it. We just have to have the will to put Capital in its place instead of acquiescing to it at every turn, like we have been for decades. Finance parasites must be brought to heel.

RAJU: But what evidence is there to prove the California election is rigged?

MIKE JOHNSON: Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here.

And just to be servicy, a “pratt” is someone incompetent and stupid. More commonly used in the King’s English, from what I can tell (Mrs. Brit 🦡🍄🐍 has used it in conversation).

Eg, noted pratt Mike Johnson mistaking ballots mailed by deadline, taking time after the deadline to be counted, as election fraud.
