Allen West, Sheriff David Clarke, those guys all look ...err, I mean, sound alike to the redneck Party. Dumb as a box of rocks, and Trump supporting leaky brain pan self-loathing cranks.

Wow, I have a lot to read. I don't think I read all the Alllen West posts before, but I will now. Or tomorrow, if the writers don't post new stuff.

If poor health is a reason to be let out Leonard Peltier should have been released decades ago.

OK, I didn't know about the letters to his wife, but my favorite Allen West story is still the time he bought some booze at Wal-Mart in Florida, and there was a teenaged cashier whose line was marked "no alcoholic beverages."West wrote a column about it. The kid's name was, in his words "NOT Steve", so he deduced that UnSteve was a Muslim sharia adherent and Wal-mart was just too cowardly to force him to ring up boozes.https://www.wonkette.com/al...

From Pollard's Wikipedia page: Congressman Allen West from Florida, wrote a letter to President Obama on June 2, 2011, stating, "After serving 26 years behind bars, Jonathan Pollard's health is deteriorating, as is his wife's. If we can consent to the release by the British of the Lockerbie bomber back to Libya due to health concern, how can we justify keeping Mr. Pollard behind bars when his crimes were clearly not as serious as a terrorist who murdered hundreds of Americans?" Actually there were quite a few politicians who asked Obama for clemency. The lawyer who brought it up at the lunch had been in the service (Navy?) stationed on a ship that was somehow endangered for whatever spy thing the guy had done, or somehow had been involved in catching him. (Sorry my recollection is not so great on details, but the lawyer guy had some personal connection to the consequences of the spy stuff so was particularly irate that West was advocating clemency.)
