“Diabolique” is a great film! (The Sharon Stone remake, not so much) Thanks, Martini 😊

Actually watched this in freshman comp. Lulz.

I don't think Clouzot ever recovered.

We all knew that the French were a bunch of socialist commies, but to push Wonkette Tabs *so* early in their existence? Prescience. (That's French, for prescience.)

A really great choice. There are deep complexities at work in the way that the relationships work and there is a truly noir sense of dread conveyed in the way in which the camera movement builds the suspense by not rushing the eye.

Great movie.

Haven't seen it in a minute; must be time for a re-watch. That director has some other good stuff - The Wages of Fear (re-made here as Sorcerer with Roy Scheider) and probably other stuff I've forgotten.

Oh wow! The wages of fear.... literally on the edge of my seat

You do know that Heeb is short for Hebrew which is an alternate form for Jew and was used in polite company when you don't want to seem to be a little bit of a Judenhasser.

I'm half Heebie!

OK, I think you are joking, but you know the etymology of heebie jeebies has nothing to do with Jewishness, right?

There is exactly zero evidence for this.

That's a damn good movie! I have nightmares about the pool every time I watch it.

I've never seen it, but have it in my "Watch Later" playlist. It sounds like a great movie to watch during the Halloween season. Thanks Martini!

Figured it would be ''All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,'' but, yeah, that was a different movie.

The WaPo story on political donations is “both sides” reporting at its most infuriating, and I’m calling shenanigans on the ActBlue screenshot that shows the box pre-checked. That is based on the header which says Weekly Donation - and I suspect that particular screenshot was either what you get in a response to an ad that specifically requests a recurrent donation or else it was a secondary screen you get AFTER you check the yes box (which is the same size as the no box) in response to the question “Would you like to make this a recurrent donation?”

I am a frequent Harris donor and I’ve never encountered a pre-checked box, and I’m disgusted that WaPo had to hunt for scraps of wrongdoing among Democrats in order to report on rampant Republican fraud.

They do hand out the phone numbers like candy, you got that right……but they don’t use them to scam you, the ActBlue donation process is very simple and transparent.

Here at Temporary HQ, someone stole the Harris/Walz sign out of the yard (house is on a corner) as well as up & down the street, but left the Sherrod Brown and Issue 1 signs. Apparently it's an epidemic on certain streets here in town.

I don't care if the kid knew whether they were $3 or how many he had. I'd have counted every single one and at 67 told him he was now a felon.

HuffPost: "Trump’s top advisors reportedly included the judge who tossed out the case into Trump’s mishandling of classified documents as a prospective attorney general candidate in the case that he wins the election, ABC News reported Tuesday citing multiple unnamed sources. https://abcnews.go.com/US/judge-tossed-trumps-classified-docs-case-list-proposed/story?id=114997807

The judge listed, Aileen Cannon, was nominated by Trump in 2020 and dismissed the classified documents case in July. The document with Cannon’s name, titled "Transition Planning: Legal Principals," reportedly includes other controversial names for numerous roles, including the FBI and DOJ. Some, but not all, of the people being considered are veterans of the first Trump administration."

Apparently tRump says he’s going to vote early. Last I heard, felons are not allowed to vote and he just admitted to, yep, voter Fraud.

I’m glad that that little shit was busted for stealing all the signs. My husband asked if we should take the Trump signs but we KNOW that that’s wrong. Let them stay so they can feel the shame after Harris wins.

Ha ha Roodles. FINALLY getting what you deserve although I’d like to see him in jail while we’re at it.

OT | IDK where to put this; I'm probably going to drop it in the comments on a couple Wonk pieces. Earlier this year, a group of Irish tween had a bit of a viral moment with a song called "The Spark". Well, they've only gone and been longlisted for the Grammy for FKN Song of the FKN Year! It's a true-blue, hi-test, certified stonker. Bloody infectious.

BBC called it the 'banger of the year'.

Time Magazine: 'good luck getting this... out of your head'.

Mixmag: 'Drum 'n' Bass Rap Banger'.

So not the perfect time for a banger, but I will wrap it like a tiny little tinfoil piece of Homemade chocolate fudge. Saving for later.

So, Elno's going on about "Unless Trump is elected, America will fall to tyranny" and how the Democrats are the real threat to democracy. Yeah, sure. War is peace, and freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength. Hard to credit that Elno believes this, but like Trump, he's afraid democracy will give power to Those People, you know, the ones who should be under apartheid or something. And that would be the end of America: the White racist America he favors, anyway. Also, regulating his multifarious businesses is tyranny.
