It also takes a lot of energy to shoot something into the sun. The natural tendency is to put it in an elliptical orbit around it (like us). You'd have to accelerate continuously to get it deep enough in the gravity well to get sucked in.

Not to be pedantic (heavens no!) but actually you’d have to DEcelerate it to drop it into a solar death spiral. Or you could of course describe it as “acceleration in he opposite direction it’s already traveling,” to speed it up to 67,000 mph backwards relative to the Earth’s orbit. Still uses a fuckton of energy though…can’t just step on the brakes.
