Very problematic author Harlan Ellison had an essay along these same lines that I read early in life and loved. (Sorry, cursory Google couldn't bring up a direct link to it; believe it was one of the ones collected in The Glass Teat). It gave me some insight into how, even some boomer bastards can have a good strong streak of anti authoritarian in them.

I heard of a sheriff's deputy who often upholstered his gun, so the sheriff made him keep it unloaded and let him carry a single bullet in his shirt pocket in case he ever actually needed it which he never did.
No, just noticing that Black people appear to be disproportionately shot "while reaching for (or holding)" a thing that almost never turns out to be a weapon, while White people seem to be subdued without incident.
