Old Mad Colonel OUTRAGED To Discover He's Worked At Fox News For 10 Years

Fox News contributor Ralph Peters, a retired Army colonel and "strategic analyst" for Fox, has announced that he's leaving the cable network because he is shocked, shocked at how the house Roger Ailes built is all of a sudden saying nasty things about people he likes, using the same sort of invective and hyperbole that Peters himself used to fling toward Barack Obama. In an email to colleagues, Peters decried what a nasty place Fox has become:

I feel compelled to explain why I have to leave. Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to "support and defend the Constitution," and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform. Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers. Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. Now I am ashamed.

Yep, this is a gent who never would have stooped to fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia through his own work, like the time he said "Lincoln freed the slaves, Obama freed the terrorists," or his insistence that the only "real refugees" from the Middle East are persecuted Christians. Petersexplained in 2015, 

young military-age Muslim males are not refugees. These are guys who just won't fight for their own country and want an economic future anywhere. So all this stuff about, oh we would be bigots if we just took Christians and other minorities, no they are the refugees. So it's so politicized at this point that we can't do what's right.

Obviously, the man was simply telling the truth, apart from the minor detail that most Syrian refugees are women and children, and that all refugees accepted by the USA had to face two years of rigorous screening.

Oh, yes, but back to his impassioned resignation email:

In my view, Fox has degenerated from providing a legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices to a mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration. When prime-time hosts -- who have never served our country in any capacity -- dismiss facts and empirical reality to launch profoundly dishonest assaults on the FBI, the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community (in which I served) and, not least, a model public servant and genuine war hero such as Robert Mueller -- all the while scaremongering with lurid warnings of "deep-state" machinations -- I cannot be part of the same organization, even at a remove. To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit.

He really doesn't like people who dismiss facts and empirical evidence, no, not at all. For instance, he was being perfectly level-headed and reality-based when in 2015 he opined, "If Israel disappeared from the face of the Earth tomorrow, Obama would not shed a tear." Duh. Peters also claimed in 2014 that Obama had deliberately timed airstrikes against Syria to avoid killing members of ISIS, because he "didn't want to hurt any terrorists." Truly, the words of a man who wouldn't dream of scaremongering or trying to undermine America's leaders.

Oh, yes, and this defender of the American justice system, who can't stand seeing his employer saying terrible things about Robert Mueller and the courts? He wasn't too hot on the military bothering with a tiresome investigation of whether Bowe Bergdahl had deserted, because soldiers on TV had already said he was a deserter, and in the good old days we didn't investigate, we'd just shoot them or hang them, or "if we were in a good mood, we'd brand them" with a "D" so they'd be shamed for life. He also wished, in 2009, that the Taliban would just "save us a lot of legal hassles and legal bills," if you catch his drift. No hypocrisy there, of course, because it's all about Military Honor, you know.

Peters also excoriated Fox for not taking seriously the threat posed to America by Russia, because he's a security analyst, and he knows a thing about Russia for sure -- he said in 2014 that Barack Obama "thinks he can romance Cuba, he thinks he can romance Iran. He tried to romance Putin, and he got date raped." See what he did there with the romance and rape metaphor? Truly a wordsmith, this guy. He also complained, in the same segment, that Barack Obama

applauds himself for all that is going right in the economy, all that is going right in the world, and he avoids everything that is going wrong.

And by golly, he just can't stand to see that sort of thing go unchallenged in the news business today.

You may also recall that in 2015 Fox suspended Peters for two weeks after he called Barack Obama a "pussy" when it came to terrorism. The suspension, of course, was for the bad word, not for anything else, like Peters saying Obama had "done more harm to American police departments than he has done to Islamic State,” because that was just sound strategic analysis from a perfectly sound strategic analyst.
