Even abolishing ICE won’t fix some of the most serious problems. Immigration judges need to be part of an independent judiciary and not DOJ employees. Asylum seekers need access to legal representation and interpreters instead of expecting them to fill out forms themselves in a language many of them don’t understand.

But don’t expect those reforms while republicans are screaming about imaginary hordes of MS13 streaming over the border from the moment Biden took office.

Sure. Who would bother with schlepping down to turn off the breaker? Besides, there are so many outlet breakers that you would need an accomplice or 8-10 trips to the panel.

Since we are not going to eliminate the filibuster any time soon, we need to coalesce around a reform plan that makes its use rare and painful, so that a supermajority is not required for every goddamn piece of legislation.

It's my understanding that reconciliation needs offsets to be budget neutral over 10 (?) areas. So why not use the saving from defunding HSA to do something constructive like teach children to play tiddlywinks or moonwalk. Either is better than that wretched hive of scum and villainy
