Most of the CBP agents out there are not coming from large cities. A seriously badass woman from the Bronx will scare the shit out them just by looking in their direction. Given all the shit they're doing and hiding and anger that was probably plain as day on her face she didn't need to even speak and they'd have pissed themselves.

Sorry I'm not saying we should treat government officials like they're special but if congress asks you to open a fucking cell door, you fucking open it.

Who cares?

If you play by bullshit rules, you can't get investigative journalism done and even though it's not your job as a Rep or Senator, you have every right to do it.

One of the things here is like, people are acting like for-profit prisons are a new thing. They aren't a new thing. This has been mainstream AF since at least 2001 when Toxicity came out. Whether it's US Citizens wrongfully imprisoned or needlessly imprisoned for stupid drug charges because of mandatory minimum sentencing, or immigrants detained at border patrol. this is what we do in America. Largest inmate population on earth, still.

I loved the movie 'Stalag 17'. One scene, a representative from the International Red Cross (the 'Geneva Man' as Schultz called him) was due to arrive, and inspect the conditions. The prisoners were issued new, lice free blankets, and a special, hearty, and nourishing meal was prepared. The prisoners were discouraged from complaining to the Geneva Man. When I hear of these 'inspections' that are 'allowed', I think of the farce staged in that movie.

Even if she had screamed at them in a threatening manner are we to think tough officers are intimidated by a lone latinx woman?

Great call. "Stalag 17" was a great movie and that scene was probably replicated for our CONGRESS MEMBERS.
