Papa John's Guy Sad That NFL Players Care More About Police Brutality Than His Pizza Sales

Remember back in 2012 when we were all boycotting Papa John's Pizza on account of "Papa John" Schnatter's whole "If Obamacare happens, I will have to charge FIFTEEN WHOLE CENTS more for pizza! Vote Romney!" schtick? Well, as much as many things have changed since then, it turns out that John Schnatter is still a douchenozzle.

While speaking on an earnings call Wednesday after the company's stock fell to a three month low, Schnatter blamed the NFL and the fact that they have allowed players to exercise their First Amendment rights to protest police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem for his declining sales.

Clearly, the players -- in their eagerness to draw attention to an issue they feel passionately about -- have overlooked what is truly the most important thing, and that is selling pizza. Specifically pizza from a company that is already hurting on account of being told it can't even steal wages from its employees anymore.

"The NFL has hurt us by not resolving the current debacle to the players' and owners' satisfaction," Schnatter said via Bloomberg. "NFL leadership has hurt Papa John's shareholders."

Even more specifically, Schnatter, who appears multiple times per week on NFL advertisements that usually feature Peyton Manning as well, blamed Roger Goodell for the pizza sale problem.

"Leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership," Schnatter said.

Schnatter also stated that being the official pizza sponsor of the NFL has hurt them because "the controversy is polarizing the customer, polarizing the country."

I guess the gist of this is supposed to be that people aren't watching football games because they are mad about the protests, seeing commercials for Papa John's pizza, and then ordering said pizza. And that, for some reason, is supposed to be a more important issue than police brutality.

What this really tells us, of course, is that there is a lot of crossover between racist assholes who are totally fine with police brutality and people who like shitty pizza.

Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but not only do I think health insurance is great and would be more than willing to pay 15 cents extra per pizza so that workers can have some, and also think police brutality and systemic racism are bad things that should be protested, but I also like pizza that is good and does not taste like someone accidentally dumped a bag of Domino's sugar on it. WEIRD!

Frankly, if the NFL protests are causing people to eat less shitty pizza, then I would call that a boon for our society as a whole.
