I've got a niece who is homeschooling her kids, she was also homeschooled. They're not religious, it's more of a self sufficiency thing, grew up on a not-quite commune way the hell and gone in northern Saskatchewan. They ranch now, quite conservative but in a "get off my land!" kind of way rather than a Tucker Carlson way. And the little girl is going to be fine - she's bright, she's social, she's good at reading a room. But I really worry about the boy, because he's none of those things. And all of his bad habits just snowball in the little cocoon he's growing up in . I could see him growing up to be Ammon Bundy, because, while he does get natural consequences for his actions in nature - learning not to pull the cat's tail or touch the electric fence - there are no consequences for social misbehaviour. And raising a kid with the freedom to be an asshole is not a good idea, IMO.
spoiler: they are. you cannot under any circumstance express joy at a Lutheran service. things like clapping your hands in church? frowned upon would be a gross understatement.
In order to grow up to be Ammon Bundy, it takes more than being raised by ordinary conservative-but-permissive, mind-their-own-business parents like this boy has. You have to be sired and conditioned to be a scofflaw by an amoral, dead-beat grifter like Cliven Bundy, who signed grazing contracts with the government, violated the terms, reneged on his obligation to pay what he owed, declared the government illegitimate when they called him on it, conned a passel of clueless malcontents into a potentially lethal armed standoff and somehow finagled his way out of all of it. Now there's a role model to emulate!
More likely he will just stew in a drunk tank.
