You know, I've been trying to remember when I had to say the Pledge. Possibly in grade school -- I mean, I must have learned it somehow. But in junior high and highschool, in the late 50s and mid 60s in suburban Milwaukee, we didn't do it. I'm sure I would remember. Apparently my school district was all commies.
You know, I don't really hate the pledge, except for the recently grafted "under God" part, and even that I just fluff off courtesy of the SCOTUS's "conventional ritual" thing.
But I don't think anybody should be REQUIRED to say it, under any circumstances.
Another conundrum: what would the wing nuts do if he was refusing to salute the flag on religious grounds ? I doubt Texas really embraces Jehovah's Witnesses, but still, Jeebus for the win etc.
