My concern about impeachment by the House is what happens after. I'm worried there will be a show trial in the Republican Senate that totally glosses over the horrors perpetrated by Trump and replaces them with their favorite attacks on Democrats. That could leave voters in 2020 with their last memories of the whole thing being that Trump is ok. I'd rather the House keeps digging and finding more shit on Trump.
"The stronger our case is, the worse the Senate will look for just letting the president off the hook."
I get where she is coming from, but Trump could literally take a dump on the Constitution, while ordering an air strike on Canada and french-kissing Vladimir Putin on live TV, and 40% of the country would still call the resulting impeachment a "witch hunt."
There’s an argument to be made for beginning impeachment proceedings later, to time them to interfere with Asshole’s 2020 campaign, but the people incarcerated at the border don’t have time.
Remember that the investigation leading to the Nixon impeachment ran almost exactly a year, and that investigating committee had a lot of stuff dropped in their lap — L. Patrick Gray taking over the FBI just weeks before the break-in, the existence of the Nixon tapes (and the shocking language the President used during official meetings), John Dean's eagerness to testify.
Labor Day is a little more than six weeks away, and public opinion can change a lot in six weeks. So can the mood of the House of Representatives. Over this recess, reps are going to be listening very closely to their constituents and I am sure that there is going to be a lot of talk about impeachment.
So Pelosi can line up a vote and with a little luck there will be some Republicans voting for impeachment as well, so the optic can be that it's a bipartisan movement.
But that's not the argument made in this post: rather, the idea is to wait until there is both a very strong case and strong support in the house for moving forward.
This is all lovely & heartening Kremlinology.Pelosi gave a green light to dissent to get votes in 2018, too - & never budged.I thought "He doesn't deserve impeachment, he deserves to go to prison" sounded awesome.

Show trial, my ass. Mich Co is more likely to put Democrats, the FBI and the Special Counsel on trial.

Why didn't she murder Trump then? Sheesh.
